One thing that I have noticed is that the power lead is not very long and I can just about sit on the sofa with it plugged in. The power lead, plug to the transformer is only 1 metre long, which seems very short. The length of the lead from the tranformer to the laptop looks about normal length.

Does anyone know if Dell do a longer plug to transformer lead....... if so how much and where can I get one?

What model of power supply do you have? You can usually buy longer cables from eBay, but you've got to find 'em based on your current brick's input jack. There's at least two or three kinds of PA-10/PA-12, and then a newer, slimmer series of adapters. A picture of the input would probably help.

The transformer has PA-3E family written on it. Model number DA90PE1-00. The tansformer is quite thin, about 3" long by 6" wide.

I don't think there is any need to buy the whole thing. The end with the three pin plug, plugs into the transformer. This is only 1 m long. Its that part that I could do with being longer.

It looks like the attached picture but with a UK plug.

I'm only talking about the end. And you're in luck because the PA-3E uses a standardized end, unlike some of the older PA-10 and PA-12. I don't know the name of the connector itself, but take the cable to a local brick and mortar and ask if they've got longer cables with the same end. Chances are they will.

And just to be sure, it looks like this, right?

Its sort of the same end, but turns back on itself, but looks like it would fit. Have a look at my previous entry as I have now added a photo.

Yeah, I know it turns back on itself. That doesn't matter; it's just the pinout. I'm using a ten-foot cord with my PA-3E that doesn't turn back on itself. I mean, it's a bit harder to wrap it around the thing, but the default cord is just too darn short. Got the new cord from my local Fry's for $4.

Been in touch with Dell and they want £18 for a 2m cable, which is a bit steep, so I will take your advice and get one from a local shop. If I can get a 10ft one like yours then that would be ideal.

    Thanks for your help.

Found a 2m cable on ebay for £2.99 inc P+P. It is known as a clover leaf or Mickey Mouse connector, 5A as per my Dell cable......... all sorted, job done.

I got one of those cables (4 meters long) for 8$ at radioshack a while back.
