Im not sure what it is :/
Its not from the speakers, and its not a true hard drive whine or a system beep, its just a constant sound with really high pitch (high scientific frequency - not as in occurance)and although its not that loud.. its really annoying.
Any ideas what it could be?

I believe you were referring to CPU Whine. It makes a high pitched Eeeeeee like noise, right? Yep, occurs to sensitive ears and low decibled environments.
There's a discussion about it. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=103747
Anyway, first thing I would suggest is to get your motherboard RMAed to see if it still persists. But the chances of it fading is unlikely - Lots of people have done it; majority of them still remain the same problem. I suspect it's due to the CPU going to C4 Mode.
Anyway, I have an Unorthodox solution which - may - help. But I wouldn't guarantee it works well for your system... I tested it, the high pitched sound is completely gone on all systems, however it works for some, but doesn't work for everyone; stability issues. I had the same CPU Whine and got it removed by a downloading the RMClock software. If you want I can help but I can't guarantee if your system can work along side with it. I've been using it for a year now. -
Thank you very much for your post.
Just one question, is this sound an indication of a faulty CPU?
or is this a normal sound?
I'll test the RMClock software and see if it makes a difference to the noise. -

LOL, I had the same problem, it's not a faulty CPU. I'm still quite uncertain about the cause of it.
Let me know if you need more info on how to use RMclock, you can also use RMclock to undervolt your CPU to use less voltage and hence, consume less battery. Indeed a highly respected CPU utility tool in the forums -
The program seems pretty easy to use.
Just one question, going to Advanced CPU settings, theres 5 tick boxes:
Enh. Halt C1E,
Enh. Stop Grant C2E,
Enh. Deep Sleep C3E,
Enh. Deeper Sleep C4E,
Hard C4E
For my computer (T5800) only C2E and the two options for C4E were enabled.
Is this normal? -

Anyway, make sure you have the exact options ticked.
As you can see, the main idea is to disable the processor from going to C4 Mode. But the other options such as chipset type should be mobile which is an important step. The bolded red lines are more important ones to take note of.
Once again, I take no responsibility if the system freezes or crashes. In the event of a failure, boot to safe mode to remove RMClock and make sure it doesn't startup by default.
Studio 1537 strange high pitch whining/beep noise constantly coming from inside laptop.
