    Hello,

According to specifications from Dell's web site 1280x800 display has considerably smaller viewing angle than display with 1440x900 resolution, particularly for vertical angles, which are +15°/–30° for the former and ±45° for the latter model.

Can anyone confirm that difference is this significant in practice as well? And how do they compare in color and overall image quality, as 1280x800 is LED as well on 1537 according to specifications.

    Thank you.

I have a Studio 1535 with the optional WXGA+ (1440x900) LED display. It is the best looking notebook display that I've ever used! Images are crisp, colors are bold and intense and it is exceptionally bright. I have also seen the WXGA (1280x800) LED on a 1537 in Best Buy. Compared to a few other laptops nearby, it was easily the best looking display. On its own it looked very good, but it wasn't quite up to the level of my WXGA+ version.

Personally, 1280x800 is too low resolution for a 15.4" display. A 1440x900 display has 26% more viewable area and text and icons are still easy to see, but not oversized as they are with 1280x800. The additonal 272,000 pixels really make a difference!

Thanks for the input allfiredup. What about the viewing angles on your monitor, are they acceptable?

I was rather disapointed with the vertical viewing angle on 1280x800 display, the colors change as soon as you move your head up and down a little, and they become completely washed out when looked from about 30 degree up, so I'm hoping they are better on 1440x900 as the specs suggest.

I beg to differ, although of course, this whole thing is entirely based on opinions to begin with.

I have a Studio 15 with the 15.4" 1280x800 display, and I think everything is perfectly sized. I just set the desktop icons to Small instead of Normal, and I have plenty of room for everything. 1440x900 is also a fantastic resolution, though, it's just some smaller text becomes hard to read.

Don't get me started on my roommate with his 15.4" 1920x1200. :p

My last 2 computers were one of each. My vostro 1500 had the 1440x900 screen and i thought it was a perfect resolution. My studio has the lower res and i think things are too big and i often wish for more desktop space. The 1440x900 seemed to be a great happy medium between readability and usability.

A good buddy of mine has a ThinkPad T61p with a 15.4" WUXGA (1920x1200) display. When I look at it, I'm quickly reminded that I'm not in my 20's anymore! My 34yr old eyes can't handle it!

How big of a difference between the two resolutions when it comes to watching movies? I find the 1200 by 800 kind of grainy and the blacks are really muted and not very deep.

I was hoping that the upgrade to the WXGA+ (1440x990) LED would cost less on the Studio 1537 than it did on the 1535. On the 1535, you were getting a higher resolution and an upgrade from CCFL for $125. But it's still $125 on the 1537 even though it's just a resolution increase, since the standard display is already LED!? A bit pricey, but I still think it's worth it.
