A sad story - after weeks of sleepless night deliberations (just joking), I ordered a Dell Studio 1558 in late Feb, to receive it in early March.

then one fine day, Engadget breaks the news that 1558 anf 1749 will be avaliable with full touch screen (initially it was a "slip" on Dell on-line catalogue here on page 5. What you will see now is only 1749, but originally (I have it printed) there was also 1558 for $999.

Bang, I cancel the order, waiting anxiously for 1558 Touch screen to apprear on the web-site. After a few days, only 1749 appears as available with touch screen, the 1558 is "purged" from the catalogue, "replaced" (the pictures seemingly stay the same) the descrition of a cheaper 1749, still the $999 remained.

    Questions:

    1. Anyone knows what's going on? Is 1558 Touch Screen for real or only 1749 will get the touch screen?
    2. If 1558 will eventually get the touch screen, any idea how long do I have to bite nails? Will the 1558 touch screen be availble with the full-HD 1920x1080 screen?

    Thanks in advance guys.

I saw it in a magazine I received at the end of January (which I saved). I talked to a dell rep who told me it would be available March 13th, but that day has come and gone and it still isnt available. Like you, I haven't been able to find anything else out about it...

I believe the new Vostro 3000 range will include a touch screen as an option in April this year so i am assuming Dell will most likely make changes then to both the Studio 1558 (Prices + Config) and the Vostro Range (Prices + Config).
Fingers crossed as im waiting for this also on either system :D

farenheit - the thumbnails that you attached, pls can you provide a link?

is on the pics a Studio, Inspiron or Vostro?

and finally, given that on the 1558 Thread here they all say how the Full-HD (1900x1080) screen is superior to the standard HD one (1300x768), will the 1558 touch screen be availble with the full-HD?

    OMG, the woiting's killing me.

    Thanks again farenheit,

one more question - is it likely that the full-HD screen (1920x1080) on the 1558 will be available with the touch-screen option, or Dell will break my heart and only offer tuch-screen with the "non-full" HD (i.e., 1300x768)?

Please in the future don't post with bold text farenheit, it makes it more difficult to read. :)
