My BRAND NEW Studio 1555 has been clicking/whirring rapidly since I first turned it on Friday. Occasionally it gets so fast that it sounds like it's buzzing and it also sometimes sounds like it's creaking.

I assume this isn't good? Do I need to send it back and get a new one?

Clicking can be resolved by hdparm.

The other noises I'm not sure about.

Okay, new information. Now I think it could possibly be the fan. The spinning/clicking (it kind of sounds like something is clicking against something else as it spins very rapidly) revs up whenever I play a DVD. It is, however, ALWAYS present.

Okay does it happen after a couple of minutes after the fan starts up. Like the fan would be normal then it makes the noise.

If I were you I would just return it. Im assuming Dell pays for the shipping both ways.
