Heres a video I made to demonstrate the ammount of flex on the edge to edge lid. It does have flex and bend, but its not as bad as the one j3n82 reported. I recorded with an iPhone so the video quality is crap. Also forgot I had left it in portrait mode when I recorded it (I didn't have a tripod so I used a cup lol). But I hope it gives some of you a basic idea of the quality. I thought openning the blinds to allow the vertical lines will show the bend/flex a lot more. I was applying quite a bit of pressure, although it doesn't seem like I was in the video. I felt as if any harder I might have damage something, or maybe pop the edge to edge screen out. I used an 8lb dumbell, I think thats the limit.

If you noticed the cloth I used to cover the keyboard when I closed the screen, I did this this to avoid getting the smudges on the screen when I pushed the lid down onto the keyboard.

At the end of the video I tried showing the Edge to Edge display, notice how theres another layer of screen over the bezel. Thats the difference between the edge to edge.

Hope this was somewhat helpful for some of you.

It's not as bad as j3n82's, but still. I can't imagine why they would design it like that... What were they thinking? Do you feel it could be an issue? I plan on bringing this laptop with me whenever I go to class a few times a week.

Also, I've seen some videos and on some of the versions the battery actually sticks out on the bottom of the laptop, raising the back up. Is this the 9 cell battery that does this? Or just an older version of the Studio laptop?

    Thanks for the video.

I believe the OP claimed to apply a lot more force than appearance, and I think only the 9-cell sticks out.

Yeah the 9 cell battery is bigger and stucks out on the bottom.

I don't think the flex/bend will be an issue. I take it to class everyday and I use a backpack to carry it around. So far it hasn't been an issue and it doesn't bother me. Its not like it flexes/bends everytime you touch it. You actually have to apply some force and I don't see why you would be pressing on it with that ammount of force on a daily basis. As long as you're not tossing it around, putting stuff on top of it, the lid should be more than enough. I can't produce the same finger discoloration from applying force on the back of the lid, and I'm afraid to push any harder.

Sounds good, thank you again for all the information. I'm slightly dissapointed though. Out of curiosity I was able to build a Studio XPS 16 laptop for the same price with better spec's.. 2.8 GHz processor, 4GB DDR3 Ram etc.

Oh well. I wish they'd just ship mine already, it's been in production for a few days now. I hope everything works, will definitely post a ton of pictures/additional information for other people looking to buy a Studio 15.

About the same as mine, and as Sharp mentioned, not nearly as bad as j3n's.

Sharp, I have the 9 cell and I really like it being propped up for my hands and allow heat the escape easier.

Street, any comment on the double glass within in the Edge to Edge display? I've heard it's double reflections can be quite annoying. I don't have the Edge to Edge display, I just figured you might want to comment on it.

The double reflection thing just makes your reflection look blurry because theres two reflections on top of one another. Its only really visible when the monitor is off, or if you're at outside and its very bright. Indoors under normal lighting you'll get a slight reflection, but with the monitor on you won't see the double reflection, just a normal reflection. I'm guessing this is because the display is on and the only reflection is the one caused by the edge to edge screen and not the LED panel. People have reported that dusts can some how creep under the edge to edge screen and you won't be able to wipe it off without taking that off. I haven't experienced this, yet, but I do not doubt it's possible. I've had those types of things happen with my iPhone's screen, somehow dust managed to get under the glass. So I have no doubts it's possible with this aswell. Others have also reported the keyboard grease can get onto the edge to edge screen when they close the lid. It doesn't happen with mine when I close the lid only, but if I put pressure on it like on the video (hence why i put the cloth on top of the keyboard), it does get onto the screen. I've taken it to class and had it in my backpack etc and haven't had it get onto the screen. Anyways, its easy to wipe off regardless, just a breath of hot air and a good cloth will do it.

What I like about it is that it covers the whoel front screen, so you won't have dust stuck between the edges of the bezel. Cleaning the screen is really easy, just wipe the whole screen with a cloth and its glossy clean. I feel its a little safer with the extra screen on top so that if something happens it won't hurt the LED panel. Since its glossy, it is prone to reflections, I've noticed its a usually when the light source is behind you that this becomes bothersome. But when the light source is behind the screen, you it's not bad. Overall, I think it makes the notebook look nicer, like the Apple's macs that have the edge to edge feature.

So, if reflection is a real issue for you, I wouldn't recommend this feature. Other than reflections, I don't see any other real cons.

Good description of the screen Street. It sounds like it isn't much of an issue when the screen is in use.

I'm sure that description will help others make informed purchases.

Sounds great, my only concern is fitting it into a laptop bag. I'll figure something out :D

That looks less flimsy than mine (by far) but I still can't believe how cheap Dell made the lid. The edge to edge looks really nice.

Just got my Laptop yesterday, aside from a few wifi issues, it's great. The bag I chose is the Targus eco-smart black/blue bag. Link

It fits the laptop perfectly, even with the 9-cell battery.

bag looks good :) i agree.
I saw the flex video, i agree the end to end looks cool, though i didnt order one. I did feel the lid at costco, though it wasnt edge to edge it was a midnight blue lid, i felt that the lid was rubbery (just like T500 thinkpad's lid) , it was a good grippy feeling, didnt test the flex though. I think the flex is intentional, it possibly doesnt touch the LCD. Who knows its possibly something by design.
