Hey everyone. Those of you who have a newer Studio 15, does it have an optical out on it? I'm looking at getting a Studio and having the optical is pretty important to me.

    Thanks for all your help!

Nope, just the standard dual 3.5mm out and one 3.5mm in, as well as HDMI out.

Dang, it seems companies are starting to get away from the optical outs. I doubt they were actually used very often though. I guess I'll have to find another way to hook up my Z-5500s.
    Thanks Mastershroom.

Well,it's no difference between optical and analog.
Optical is good only on long distances.

I was using optical because because it was the most straight-forward and simplest way to get 5.1. I have an Audigy 2 ZS in my current notebook and it looks like I'd have to get something similar for a Studio.

Thanks but that won't work, thats just an adapter to give a standard optical cable Toslink ends. (I already have a few of these..) What I'd need is an external soundcard that has optical built-in. The Audigy 2ZS soundcard I use now uses the same 1/8" jack for both analog-out (the green wire) and digital out (which is optical). I've seen HP laptops that have basically the same setup.
