I have a Dell Studio 1555. I will be performing the following hardware upgrades in the system:
    1. HDD 320 GB 5400 rpm -> HDD 320 GB 7200 rpm
    2. Intel Wifi 5100 card -> Intel Wifi 5300 card

Now my question is since I will be doing these upgrades myself, will doing this void my warranty in any way. I have 1 Yr Ltd Hardware Warranty, InHome Service after Remote Diagnosis.

Also, if tomorrow I have 2 send the lappy 2 the Dell Service Centre for any reason and they find out that I have upgraded the machine, then will it have any effect on my warranty?

The best thing to do is call up Dell and ask them yourself. As far as I know, neither of these upgrades void the warranty, but you may need to keep the old parts so that you can restore the machine to the factory specifications if anything goes wrong.

Upgrading the HDD is absolutely fine. I'm not as sure about the wi-fi, as the poster before me said; check with Dell or read the fine print to be sure.

The hard disk upgrade is almost definitely not worth it; the Black edition doesn't perform significantly better than the Blue, at least not well enough to produce a real-world difference.

I had called up Dell as I was planning 2 buy 4m them. These upgrades r not available with Dell and they said that they do not sell laptop components individually. That was quite surprising indeed.

Should I upgrade the 320 GB 5400 rpm drive to the 500 GB 5400 rpm one if 320 GB 7200 rpm will not give a major performance boost?

I mean this is really up to you. If you need the extra space, go for it. If you don't need it, why bother? There will probably be a performance boost... but it'll be really small.

Neither the WiFi card nor the hard drive will void your warranty if you replace them yourself. If you want your new hard drive to be faster, get a 7,200 RPM drive or SSD. If you just want more space, get 500GB. If you want both, get a 500GB 7,200 RPM. :p

500 GB 7200 rpm is not available here and I am interested in getting it. It is not even available on ebay India.

Is it possible for me 2 order it from ebay US and do they ship the products overseas? any ideas.

It all depends on your individual seller's policy.

I'm not going to comment on the warranty, only regarding the performance of WD blue vs. WD black.

That's because the review is comparing different capacity of blue vs. black.

Upgrading 320GB blue to 320GB black will still give you performance boost. At least I've done it and experienced it myself. And not only that, strangely, the 320GB blue that came with my Dell notebook is noisier and hotter than 320GB black that I bought to replace it.

My version of synthetic benchmark results:
    HD Tune
    Crystal DiskMark

Note: I didn't disable any background programs such as antivirus or kill the network while benchmarking. Both drives are identical as the new one (WD3200BJKT) is a clone copy of the old one (WD3200BEVT) using Acronis.
