Hey guys, my best friend purchased a Dell Studio 1555 from Best Buy unaware that it didn't have a dedicated graphics card. He was obviously blinded by the low price.
Just a few questions:
1) Can a dedicated graphics card be placed in this system? If so, what are the best options?
2) Is the processor upgradeable or is it soldered onto the board?
Thanks in advance.

You cannot upgrade the GPU, its built onto the motherboard; the 4570 is the best option you can have. You "may" place a 1558's mobo into your 1555 with the newer HD5470, but not recommended to work.
Processor is upgradable, they're never soldered onto the boards.
In fact, I think your question should be swapped the other way round for their respective components..

Thanks for your response.
I was under the impression that the Alienware M11x processor was soldered onto the motherboard, as it cannot be swapped out or upgraded.
That's unfortunate to hear about his GPU though. I'm not sure that a motherboard swap is the route he'd want to take. -

Can buy a US$240 HD5750/HD5770 DIY ViDock to upgrade your graphics. -
if you're upgrading cpu's make sure its compatible
you cannot put any of the new intel i3,5,or 7 chips into any of the 1555 boards -
Yeah for the CPU I would suggest a P8700 which I swapped in from my original T6500. Great Temps, and it has a lot of power!
Studio 1555 upgradeable?
