I have read about people ordering a Dell Studio 15 with a HD 4570 and getting confused after receiving a their laptop with a weird HD 545v.
I simply assume Dell decided to install new GPUs on newly ordered laptops for some reason.
Well I ordered a Studio 1557 the first week it was available in Hong Kong, november 2009. I simply got a HD 4570 512MB dedicated + 1.5GB shared, reading as a silly 2GB+.
But now that I have installed the latest graphics driver from Dell's website I suddenly received a magical 'upgrade' to a HD 545v.
Every tool I use now reads it as a HD 545v with 512MB.
- Performance is up, in Windows Experience Index 3D performance has increased a whole point 4.9 to 5.9. (Could also be partially due to BIOS updates, these were said to improve performance) And overal things seem more smooth. Though in situations with lots of particles where I used to have very low FPS, it is still the same.
- I get the idea average temperature is a little higher,
- memory is down 2GB -> 512MB,
- ATI PowerPlay is no longer available,
- Windows Aero performance is down 0.2 points 4.9 to 4.7. Though, who cares?
Where does this HD 545v come from?
-
545v is a rebranded 4570 mobility, iirc.
EDIT: 720 core clock vs 680 on the 4570. It's litterally an OC'd hd4570 mobility. It's still at a mature 55nm. -
So... my GPU has simply been overclocked and rebranded.
Dell could mention that in the driver description. Also, all drivers are still stated to be for "HD 4570" in the download section.
Studio 1557 HD 4570 gets a magical 'upgrade' to HD 545v.
