For those of you out there with the 1558 (see my sig for system config) and the 90 Power Adaptor (the slim one not the brick):

What are your experiences regarding how hot the adaptor gets? A couple of times now I've been viewing a flash video or what ever while browsing and have found that the 90W adaptor has gotten uncomfortably hot to the touch. I mean it gets hot enough that the label on the back with the adaptor specs has begun to bubble in spots.

It has been well documented that power draw has been problematic on the newer Dell laptops with the i5/i7 generation CPU's and the ATI GPU's. I am curious is anyone else is seeing the same heat issue with the adaptor and if they have contacted Dell about this. Unfortunately, I am in Italy and the availability of Dell tech support is only 9am-6pm M-F (while Im at work) and there's no Toll Free number.

    Looking forward to other's opinions

I've run into the same problems. When I have been 3D games, the slim 90w power adapter has been hot enough to cook an egg.

I actually had to replace my power adapter since the first one I received made a high-pitched whining sound when I plugged it into the laptop. It took about an hour for Dell Tech Support to finally agree to send me a new one and only after I put the phone up to the power adapter so they could hear it. (Could they really hear it long distance to the Philippines?)

I'm hoping Dell will realize this laptop needs a strong power adapter as well and send out new ones to the users of this model laptop.

Mine gets pretty hot, not enough to be an issue though.

The 5470 is now a £70 option in the UK, it wasn't available when I ordered mine a month ago.

I actually tried asking them for a 120w adapter n they told me that they could not do that as the 90w adapter has been tried and tested with the 1558. So i just got a newer 90w n it was ok for a week or so but even that gets quite hot wen i play games n such!! Kinda frustrating! Any1 tried getting a 120w adapter?

N does a 120w adapter improve performance in someway?

They use the same one for the 1557.

It gets really hot with this system as well.

I have the ultra slim 90W. It gets hot only when my batteries are charging but this doesn't concern me at all because I'm not holding it in my arms or anything like that :p I really love this slim design that it has - beauty needs sacrifice (hotness) and I'm totally cool with it :)

neither issues with overheating of the laptop itself nor with the adaptor

    will update you soon

I agree. It's nice and compact.. can fit inside the side pocket of a laptop bag easily and doesn't protrude much

When I use the slim power adapter I make sure it is standing on its side rather then laying flat. I hope this helps in keeping it cooler.

The bigger adapter will charge batteries faster. Apart from that, it will allow the motherboard to draw more power as needed if the BIOS supports the larger adapter.
