I have a 3 months old 1558 (see the specs in my sig.) and I currently have A06 bios as well 10.6 Catalyst installed.

The OS hangs are become unresponsive for about 20-30 secs from time to time. Maybe 2-3 times a week. This mostly happens when the laptop is sitting idle for a few minutes and when I come back and try click on something on the screen nothing responds. I have to wait untill it comes back. If I have clicked a few things when it comes of the freeze those clicks do go through like there is a 20-30 sec lag. Sometimes the cursor even does not move but most of the time cursor can move but not able to click anything. Anyone have similar issues. It can't be throttling as it almost always happen when I leave the laptop idling with a bunch of explorer windows open. Anyone has any ideas? Do you think my HDD goes to sleep and it takes some time for it to come back?
This was happening when I had catalyst 10.4 and A04 bios so the update to it did not fix it.

Probably just some software glitch... are you using the factory image or have you done a clean install? Has this problem always happened or has it just started happening recently?

I did a fresh install a couple of weeks after I got the laptop.
I think it has been happening almost for a couple of months (not very sure) but is not very recent. Since it happen randomly and just stalls the laptop I was not worried initially hoped it will go away. Guess not.

Btw, I found a similar issue on this thread although there was not fix posted

Ok I noticed that this only happens when I am battry and let the laptop sit idle for 10-20 mins. It seems the HDD stops spinnig to save battery or something and so when I try to use the laptop for about 30 sec laptop is not responsive. usually the cursor moves but programs explorer does not respond. But after 30 secs everything is back to normal.

So are there any adavanced setting for HDD that stops it from spinning when on battery for some time?
