Hi, I have a problem connecting my Studio 17 with the ATI-3650 card to a LGPG6000 plasma tv through HDMI.
I SOMETIMES have sound, but mostly don't. If I *do* have sound and switch channels on the tv set and return to the laptop-hdmi input I lose the sound until I shut down the laptop and turn it on again. (50% chance). Going into hibernation and coming out of it (which is a necessity as booting takes ages) also loses the sound and sometimes the video too.
Also it seems to be important if I put in the HDMI-cable into the laptop after of before choosing the right channel of even turning on the tv. I still haven't figured out what the problem is.
When I open the playback devices HDMI-output is enabled and default. Sometimes it's even outputting sound, but you still hear nothing on the TV![]()
I tried several players (VLC, windows media player, MPC HC) but no difference.
I also enabled the HDMI-output on the IDT-configuration panel (I somehow need to repeat this everytime I plug in the cable) but to no avail.
Finally I installed the REALTEAK HDMI audio drivers (v2.04) but this also didn't help.
Oh, when pressing the fn-key with the switch-panel button I sometimes have three options, and a second later only one etc. As if it can't detect correctly that it's attached through HDMI. Could the HDMI-output on the laptop be faulty?
Please help me as I bought the laptop to use as a mediacenter in combination with my tv and I can't watch anything now![]()

I run into this all the time, since people forget that HDTV's aren't really TV's in the traditional sense - they're just big monitors, and you have to treat them as such.
HDTV's need to be individually configured for use as an external monitor regardless of the source - DVD, BD, VHS, PS3, PC, whatever - your computer doesn't do anything but output an AV signal to the external display device. That device needs to be configured to receive those signals on the individual HDMI input channel the signals are being transmitted to.
Your plasma system has its own audio configuration, and its usually accessed by your remote. Check your manual, and it should tell you how to access and configure your HDMI input audio.
If you have a BD-ROM, take note - you can't run cloned displays (laptop & external HDTV) at the same time when using a laptop BD player to ouput to an external drive - BD Content Protection will stop the playback, so keep that in mind if you ever run into that problem.
Even if your configuration is a bit different than mine, the solution is still the same - you have to redirect the audio to the external digital cable, and the external display has to be configured to accept the signal coming from the device that's transmitting it.
Let me know how you make out. -
I wish I knew how I should configure the TV as there are no apparant options for this. Only for outputting the sounds FROM the tv to a audioset (doesn't work either btw, but that's another problem
The configuration shouldn't be a problem though, as SOMETIMES it does work and sometimes it doesn't. Maybe it's a fault implementation of HDMI by LG (I have a LGPG6000).
If there is *anybody* out here with that TV and a Studio 15/17, please take the time to connect your laptop to the tv to check if you have similar problems. It would help me a lot -
i don't think your hdmi cable is faulty. i have the same problem with my studio desktop running with ati-3450. only thing that works for me is to unplug the hdmi cable for 5 seconds and then it comes back. i run a sony xpbr and have the same problems as you do.

hey, ya, i had the same issues with mine. i noticed sometimes when i connected to my tv and launched VMC i would have no sound. other times, connect to my tv and use mpc (media player classic and have sound. if i later launched VMC after using mpc, sound was fine.
moral of the story, play something in mpc or wmp first, then try launching VMP
that said, i updated all my stuff on my 1535 (including vid and audio drivers) and i haven't had this problem since.
if that doesn't work, don't be afraid to use the online text support. its not that bad and you can let some other guy try to figure everything out w/out having to ship it somewhere.
hope that helps.
