    Hi all,
I have posted already on this forum asking for advice - http://forum.notebookreview.com/show....php?p=5908996
What I would like to know is what you think of the £699 Studio 17 (from the link) ?
Does anyone have one who could tell me what the build quality is like and would you recommend it?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

I have Studio 1747. Build quality is pretty good. The only minus that I see is a bit of flex in the keyboard (not that much though), and a little uneven fit on the media bar.

The build quality on my second system is good. The first one that I returned because of the 900p screen was bad. It had the design studio OPI lid and it really didn't fit well. It was large and loose. My new one has one of the standard colors (promise pink) and the fit is excellent.

You should read through the forum about the hardware issues and make sure that it is something that you want to deal with. There are quite a few problems that we are hoping Dell will get fixed. Throttling is the main problem with the i7.

The only reason I have kept mine is the B+RG 1080p screen. The system you are looking at has the screen that I hated so I really can't recommend it to anyone. Mine was grainy and had terrible viewing angles. It gave me a headache trying to read email or do any web browsing. Gaming on it was fine though.

I just seen the Studio 1764 at Staples. I don't much like it. The 1745 has the speakers on the palm rest. The 1764 doesn't. I don't think the 1764 has the lighted touchable eject, volume, mute, and etc buttons on it either.

Edit: That was an Inspiron 1764. Sorry.

Yeah, Studio 1749 design is staying the same I believe. Difference supposed to be in arrandale i5/i7 CPU availability and ATI 5650 (or 5730). So due to lower power and thermal envelope, it follows that throttling issues should be less. It is not quite the same as build quality though :).

Oh, and to the OP, get the 1080p screen if you can, IMO, it makes the system, otherwise might as well go for Studio 15, that is unless you are getting Studio purely for gaming. If you are, rethink that choice :).
