Has anyone been able to get their Ethernet Controller to work on the Studio 17? I have the wireless working, but the Ethernet Controller will not load any drivers, automatic or manual. I have searched Intel's site and downloaded every 64 bit driver from Dell's Studio 17 download page. Thanks!

This is funny, could it be a problem with your router? Typically the issue might be that you have a perfectly functioning laptop Ethernet, but the switch or router you're using is faulty.

Hmm ... but since your wireless is working, then it shouldn't be the problem. Could you check under Control Panel to see if the Ethernet Controller device is functioning properly?

Can you clarify what you mean when you say that it doesn't load any drivers (ie, do you get an error)? Is the ethernet controller listed as an unknown device in Device Manager?

Guys.....its not more complicated than there don't seem to be any Vista x64 drivers for the ethernet controller. Dell doesn't have a download for their ethernet controller for x64 Vista. There's nothing wrong with the ethernet controller, and the router would have absolutely nothing to do with this.

I have the same problem with my Studio 17 and Vista x64 ultimate. Luckily I don't use ethernet often, so its not a pressing issue. But I would like to know if anybody has found some ethernet drivers as well.

Somms, I have no idea why it works for you and not on my Studio. Trying to manually load the inf from device manager does not even attempt to load the driver.

To clarify the problem more, like tmaxxtim said, in device manager it shows an Ethernet controller listed under other devices, but it of course has an exclamation mark you would get if no driver is present.

I have tried every download for Vista 32 and 64 bit listed in Somms link (sometimes 64 inf files are included in 32 bit releases is why I tried both of them) but they just will not load.

I know it is common that driver install success on 64 bit Vista appears to work at random for no apparent reason. But I can't figure out why. I even have forced signatures turned off.

Hopefully some new drivers are released or someone figures out a way sometime soon.

Try using the 64-bit driver for XP, if they have one.

You could give the above a try. Its the full-blown Broadcom NetXtreme Software...Also includes Broadcom Advance Control Suite which is a pretty neat app for the gigabit NIC in the Studios...

Thanks for the link. This is a huge download. I'll post whether or not it works in an hour or two.

*Edit- No dice. The driver installation fails :(

I tried the first driver linked and got it working fine. I had to manually install it as I tried to have Windows search in the folder but it said that it didnt find anything. All is good now though, thanks for the link.

I just downloaded the one from the 64-bit Studio 15 page. The 32 bit drivers are the same so saw no reason why the 64 bit ones wouldn't be either.
