I use Google Talk pretty religiously to communicate/send files/talk to people. Needless to say, I have been pretty bummed out to find the audio compatibility issues with the audio drivers on my new studio 17. Has anybody found a workaround? A different client that runs GTalk that doesnt cause the audio crash? Is there an official date for a new driver release to correct the problem with GTalk and Yahoo messenger?

And dont suggest the drivers on the Dell site, because they dont do anything!

    Help!

Have you tried the beta Yahoo client? I installed YIM yesterday to test this because of what someone else posted, but I am not installed any more Yahoo software. I'll stick with Digsby.

Will this work on top of the google talk client? Does it include VOIP and file transfer?

It does work with Google Talk. I can send files through MSN just fine, so I would imagine it would be the case with GTalk. Not sure about VoIP, I don't use it.

When I tried this I was using Server 2008, but it is pretty much the same as Vista since I used the same drivers. It is definitely a driver issue. Maybe we can hunt down the sound card manufacturer and get the drivers directly from their site? I would guess the Dell ones probably aren't the latest.

Ok, will try that later today....although I wonder how can it be a driver issue since it the YM which keeps complaining "that my speakers/ microphone are being used by another program" (even though there is nothing using them for sure)

When I tried it, it just crashed my audio and it wouldn't work until I rebooted. Have you tried the beta Yahoo IM 9?

LOL, I came to this thread to tell about beta YM 9 but u beat me to it. I can't believe that this is beta YM for Vista....all these days YM was not certified for Vista ????!!!!!!!

Now GTalk is still a mystery...they don't mention any Vista specific version

It isn't just for Vista, its style is just catered toward Vista. Did that fix the voice issue?

ym beta 9 does not work. click on the link in my sig to download yahoo messenger vista. its only the beta version and there are a lot of things missing (webcam etc) but it works and the audio doesn't cut out. As for Gtalk i have no solution yet.
