I'm just curious as to where most Dell Studio 15/17 systems ship from after being built, tested, etc. Are the locations located in North America or are they farther away? If any of you have tracked shipments of your Studios and know where they started shipping from, that would be great.

I've been curious about that myself. I ordered a machine almost identical to yours on 8/3 (WLED display, all else same). They originally gave me a ship date of 8/13 but I received an email today that due to "unexpected delays" they have revised my ship date to 8/20. I'm pretty bummed. I hope you don't have my luck!

I'm pretty sure everything is built in Malaysia and shipped to Texas before getting to their final destinations.

Man, delays bite. Regarding the locations, I think Malaysia is right too.

How does Dell get away with charging tax(too all states, should only be TX) if they all come from Texas?

Dell is required to collect sales tax in any state where they have a "business presence". They actually have call centers and facilities all over the country so they have to charge tax in those states.

Also, found out the laptops are assembled in Malaysia then shipped to Nashville, TN, before being routed to their final destination. Great news for me - I work about a mile from Dell. It will take UPS longer to take my machine to the sorting facility and back to my work than it would to bring it straight here. Now if it would only ship...

I just ordered mine yesterday (8/17) and my ship date is 9/4

Now I just have to wait..... (they already shipped the printer and other accessories I purchased, but the laptop itself is going to take a while it seems)

    I can't wait!
