I got my Studio 17 in November. It has already been back to Dell once as the speakers were not working correctly. I was just sat on it doing my university assignment and out of nowhere it instantly went quiet, screen went black and now is doing a good job of impersonating a paperweight. No lights come on when I plug in the power cable. The battery has 2/5 life left in it when I press the button on it. Nothing at all happens when I press the power button. It is completely cool and nothing indicates it has overheated.

Any ideas on this? I will call Dell in the morning but I am very worried that I have already lost my assignment/ will have to send it back to Dell so they will wipe it and I will lose it then.

    :(

Sounds like it just died, was it hot right before it shut down?

I don't think it's hard drive failure, as nothing else happens. It might be a motherboard issue.

You could remove the hard drive, get an enclosure, and back up your data to some other computer, and then replace the hard drive and send it back to Dell, but other than that, I don't really know anything else you can do.
