    Hi guys,

I just received my new studio 17 last night. For the most part, everything is great. However I have noticed some nasty looking light leak on the bottom inch of the LCD screen. Its only noticable on a black screen, but that means dvds etc. Its quite a bright white.

Is this a common problem?? Im going to ring Dell and see if it can be fixed, but its quite annoying.
I only have standard warranty so not sure what that gives me.

Also on another question, I didnt order it with a inbuilt webcam, which I regret. I dont suppose there is anyway this can be attached now is there?

The screen is 17.0 " Widescreen WUXGA CCFL(1920x1200) TFT Display with TrueLife(TM)

    Thanks

No light leaking on my Studio 17 but I do have the slightly smaller res WLED screen as well. If it bothers you too much you could ask for a replacment LCD screen though.

The integrated camera isn't bad to get to since just the screen bezel has to be removed but I'm not sure the camera cable would be there since its optional and wasn't included in your order.

    Thanks for the reply

I will call dell and see what they can do. One thing I did notice, if I press on the back of the screen (the top of the case), a lot of it dissapears, like something is a bit loose or not flush.

Also, where does the camera sit? The case around the screen doesnt have any hole for it, so I guess I probably cant just bang one in there. Just like I assume there would be no hole if I didnt order the fingerprint scanner.

While im at it, the headphones that came with it have a fair bit of static. It occasionally dissapears for a minute or so though. would this be a hardware or software issue? I got the audigy card and have installed the drivers that came with it.

If you got that "Audigy" thing that's NOT a card, nor physical hardware of any sort. It's a rip off-just a piece of software. You'd have to get the X-Fi card with it to actually get different hardware.

I've heard some people say turning off the "A" band on wireless gets rid of static. The two Dell laptops I've used to date both had horrible static/scatching (but they were Latitudes which IMO are junky, and they were from a few years back, and before I knew about the "turning off 'A' band trick").
