just want to know about the weight of the studio 17. just ordered one yesterday but after doing a little reading, i've read that it is a little on the heavier side being 17 inch and all.

is the studio 17 really that heavy that it is a burden to carry even for half a day. im asking because it is my first laptop and i may need to take it into uni on the odd occasions, probably once or twice a semester, if i really needed it.
should i give up the mike ming custom cover and just go with an xps M1530, or should i just suck it up if i'm only going to take it into uni a few times if the need be.

this problem is driving me crazy so any help is really appreciated.

    thank you. :D

I got my Studio 17 for uni, and had the same concerns as you. I take mine in with me probably once a week. In truth it is kinda heavy, but I use the messenger bag and carry it around through the city during my 4 hour break.
I commute an hour each way on the train, and its kind of a struggle to use it in the seats as the screen hits the chair in front if you try and open it.

I occasionally think its too big, but overall, the screen size is worth it I think (I use it for photoshop, illustrator and 3d modelling). Especially only if you are taking it in now and then, its really not that bad

Hi, you mentioned that you use PS, Illustrator etc. What screen did you get, the 1440x900 Led or 1920x1200 CCFL. If 1440x900, then please us know how comfortable it is to use with PS etc. Colour reproduction and screen real estate.

    thanks

thanks jared. chances are i wont be using it while commuting since i take the bus and the roads here in glasgow are bumpy as hell!!!! I think ill wait until i recieve the order instead of changing it before i have even seen it. Chances are i will be keeping it.

    thanks for the help man.

It's certainly not heavy and if you get a laptop case/bag then you won't notice the difference really. My last laptop was 14 inches and weighed a lot more than my Studio 17, I'm just used to working on big screens as I'm a programmer/web developer so a smaller screen would strain my eyes.

just another question. Can anyone recommend a decent bag for the studio 17, preferably a shoulder/messenger bag.

Why not get the studio 15?

The reason I didn't get the studio 15 was because in the house there is only one computer in the house. One computer and 4 brothers that is. Its hard enough when you want to use it, never mind trying to get any work done since there is always someone else around playing video games or watching TV. I think it would have been better to get more of a desktop replacement so everyone could use it.

But like I said, if it is really too big, even to take into uni a few days a year, then I will just return the studio and get the XPS m1530 or get a studio 15.
