I'm planning on ordering a Studio 17 some time next week, retail(Outlet never has what I want) but there are some things I'm not sure of:

What is the difference between the 1735 and 1737?

There are two drive bays, can I just order a second 500gb 2.5" SATA drive from Newegg and toss it in?

Is there a free internal slot for a runcore drive? Ideally I would like to have a 16gb SSD PCI-E runcore for Windows and use the two 500gb drive for storage. "Terabyte" laptop anyone? :D

Can you get the LED creen new anymore? I seem to only see it in the outlet these days... :(

For starters, you'd probably have gotten more answers in the right forum (Inspiron and Studio; this is the XPS and Studio XPS section) :p

The Studio 1735 and 1737 are physically identical. The main difference lies in the chipset; the 1735 uses the old Intel 965 chipset/Santa Rosa platform, which limits you to 800MHz FSB processors and 667MHz DDR2 memory, as well as the Intel X3100 integrated graphics if you don't opt for the ATi 3650.

The 1737 uses the newer and better Intel 45 chipset/Montevina platform, which allows 1066MHz FSB processors and 800MHz DDR2 memory, along with the Intel 4500MHD integrated graphics if you don't get the ATi card.

So, basically, the two are identical on the outside, but the 1737 is newer and better on the inside.

As for the dual hard drives, you can use any 2.5" 9.5mm SATA hard drive, but you will need to order a hard drive caddy as well; I don't believe it comes with a second empty caddy installed if you don't order it with two hard drives. These can be found pretty cheap on eBay and places like parts-people.com.

The Studio 17 has three internal mini-PCIe slots; one for WLAN (WiFi), WPAN (Bluetooth), and one for WWAN (mobile broadband). Not all of these slots will be taken up depending on which card options you buy, though, so you can put something else in an empty slot. I have no way of telling you if it will work or not, though.

You cannot install RunCore Mini PCIe SSD in any of the available Mini PCIe slots inside Studio 17 or any other notebooks other than what it is designed for, that is only for Inspiron Mini 9 netbook (or Asus Eee Netbooks for the longer one). It will fit the slot if you put it in, but won't be detected.

Just buy the widely available 2.5" SATA SSD if you would like to use SSD for your future Studio 17.

Woohoo! I just clicked submit order on an outlet 1737:
    Core2Duo 2.1/800/2MB
    4GB 800mhz RAM
    500GB Western Digital
    9 Cell battery
    Subtotal: $754
    Bluetooth 370 +$30
    Bluetooth mouse +$30
    Second HD tray +$11
    Second 500GB WD (Newegg) +$90
    Grand total:$915 :D

Now to source a cheap backlit keyboard....

I was considering the 1080p 1555 but...the 1280x800 resolution on my old Vostro 1500 was the perfect balance of pixels/sq inch; and the px/sqin rate on the 1737 was the same. I imagine that 1555 would be a tad too small for comfort(For me anyways)
