Which screen option should I get? I would like to have a really pretty long lasting screen. I don't like small letters. I'm not using the laptop for games or photoshop. Just web surfing and pictures and youtube videos and microsoft office files.

    Here are the 3 options:
Hi Resolution, glossy widescreen 17.0 inch display (1440x900)(Included in price)
Hi Resolution, glossy widescreen 17.0 inch WLED display (1440x900)($150 CND)
Hi Resolution, glossy widescreen 17.0 inch display (1920x1200)($300 CND)

    Thanks in advance! :D

I just bought the 1920x1200 version so I could hook it up to a wide screen monitor of the compatible resolution. If you don't need to match it to a monitor's capabilities, you can choose any you like.

I do web design and use photoshop a lot so I wanted the best resolution.

Hey you...though I dont have the S17...I have the 1530 and I have the (1440x900) screen...and do some of the same things you would be doing on the lappy. The (1440x900), is a very nice screen...I can see the screen with ease, clarity, brightness and vibrancy etc!

    Cin ;) :)

Decent article about the benefits of WLED over older CCFL technology...

    http://www.eetasia.com/ART_8800514041_480700_NP_4b945d5e.HTM

    Code:
Key features of the new modules are:

Long-life WLED backlight system - By incorporating highly luminescent, highly efficient WLEDs into the backlight system, which eliminates the need for an inverter circuit, NEC has been able to reduce power consumption in the new module by more than 30 percent compared to modules that use CCFL. The WLED backlight system also enables thickness and weight to be reduced by more than 15 percent compared to conventional modules equipped with CCFL-based backlight systems.

Furthermore, the risk of damage to an LCD due to shock and vibration is small compared to a CCFL with a glass tube structure, because the WLED is face mounted, making the module small, light and more reliable.

High levels of visibility - The module attains wide viewing angles of 160° both horizontally and vertically, high contrast ratio of 1000:1 and fast response time of 25ms. These features enable information to be reproduced on screen quickly, precisely and without stress.

I would go for the WLED screen as it is both brighter and more energy efficient. Definitely a good thing.

Chances are with the 1920 * 1200 screen, you are going to have to increase the font and icon sizes otherwise everything looks a little too small. I'm always laughing when that happens. You end up spending an extra hundred quid and then enlarge everything until you have the equivalent of a 1440 * 900 display.

Haha. ya I think I'm going to go for the middle one. It's only $150 more.

    Thanks everyone!
