Hey all, I'm looking for a laptop to replace my current one.
I've been looking at reviews and I have narrowed my choices down to the Studio 17 and XPS M1530.
The biggest things I like about the Studio 17 is the big display, backlit keyboard, and slot loading dvd player.
I don't know much about the XPS.
Any help with choosing the right laptop would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Well i can tell you 'if you get a good XPS' like i have you can overclock it and make it get a 25% higher 3D mark score and go from Medium graphics to High Graphics in some games like COD4 and your GPU wont even nudge 80*c mine only gets to 76 and that's with a massive overclock.
I don't know much about the Studio 17 but its a 17" so your sacrificing a lovely XPS slim light design for a big 17" even so the M1530 is basically out of production. because of the new models coming through you may whant to wait till 09 but the M1530 is still "Just" the best gaming budget 15" next year it diffidently wont be worth buying but it will probaly get you through 2009 easy its a grouse laptop.
But hey... if your prapered to wait
just a few question:
Do you plan to game?
Do you plan to move around?

m1530 is not the best budget 15" gaming laptop. Other manufacturers are providing the 9600m GPU right now.
I own a m1530 but if I was buying new right now I would get something with the updated chipset and a 9600m GT DDR3. -
the 9600 gt is not really a leap forward. They shrunk the die, but performance is similar. So, maybe runs a little cooler, maybe uses a little less power. Wouldn't be a deal breaker for me however.

It will somewhat depend on what kind of games would they be

I play COD4 and quantum of solice is COD4 (they use the same engine or whatever) Solice just has the faces and locations changed thhey will both run great

so in comparision, the XPS is better than the 17?

Though it depends on whether you wan't to lug a thick heavy 17inch studio versus a slim 15 inch xps..
It also depends on whether you would benefit from having a larger 17 inch screen.
Though from a basic hardware/performace type comparison - you can't really say that either is better than the other. -
Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to get the xps, and I'm going to get a 19" lcd monitor for gaming when its at my desk.

. Congratulations
