but when you try to add your configuration to the cart, it tells you that you have to call an agent to order. There is even an option for an RGB 1920x1200 LED screen!!!

But, at least they're FINALLY available ..................... guess I need to call and cancel my Studio 15 now :)

Geez. I feel a little sad since I took delivery friday last week. On the flip side I'm content since I just saw that the 9-cell battery is now a £100 option, 3 years next-day warranty doesn't cost as little as the 2 year warranty and colour options aren't free. Good to see that the LED screen is standard now.

...and Canada still has Montevina on nothing except the business models. T_T

...maybe I should just forget about waiting for Dell to wow me and take my business elsewhere. -_-

    HOLD THE PHONE!

I just tried ordering the Studio 1737 with the RGB screen and the ATI HD 3650. After the order initially did not go through online, I called a sales rep. We spent over an HOUR trying to get the thing configured, and he kept coming up with a problem on his end that would not let him send the order off to be built. He was great and patient, made a bunch of calls, and learned from the web folks that the listing is an ERROR. It should not be showing as available at this time. I was told that the folks who succeed in placing an order online will almost certainly get a call in the next couple of days cancelling the order and trying to sell them a different configuration.

The problem, it seems, is not the RGB screen but the ATI HD 3650 video card (which, apparently, is still not available for the Studio 17). Not sure if it's possible to order one with the Intel built-in card and an RGB screen since we couldn't get past the video card in the configuring process.

That's wierd, I just had no problem configuring one with those options and buying it through the website:

    http://www.dell.com/epp

try this one....... you get an additional 7% off doing it here anyway..... just choose "large corporation"
If you say you're going to use a credit card first...... it gives you an option to get an additional 4% off if you then use your dell credit card.

Also, sign into your account with Dell's webpage before configuring because if you sign in after, it removes Dell's discounts when you go to checkout and then you have to remove it and reconfigure all over again.

    Here is what I got:

Yeah, I was finally able to get my configuration to go through online as well (I was playing with it while on the phone with the sales guy.) But the sales guy told me that once the order is received on their end -- at least in the US currently -- there is no real way to process it with that configuration because it won't let them send the order to the builder with the ATI video card.

PLEASE let us know if your order goes through, or if you get a call to modify it, or whatever. I'm still interested in this machine.

Guys, I wouldn't jump the gun so fast on ordering right now. I say this because Dell is still adding the full offerings to the configuration pages. I would wait until tomorrow. Personally, I will get one of these when it has been tested and Dell has any kinks and quirks worked out. The reason for the ATI video card "shortage" is because it isn't a shortage. It had to be modified so it could accomadate the new Montevina platform/chipset which is different than what it previously was on. So the video cards are being manufactured as we speak, and they are soldered to the motherboard, not connected. Remember that Dell releases/revises new hardware every so often. So making a purchase now could leave you regretting it when new hardware and software pops up. I CLOSELY monitor how Dell does this and have been for this year. Give it some time. Dell will make an official announcement soon and have the whole platter available instead of half.

Well, either the RGBLED is a mistake and is to be added later OR they are ahead of the game for this laptop and maybe a sign of good things to come.

Thanks, Jayson. Interesting stuff. Looks like exactly what's available on the Dell web site right now, though.

Just to point out again, when I tried to place my order I was told that the problem was merely with the availability of the ATI graphics card, not the better screen or the new processor. Both of those went through the process with the sales department just fine. We tried a couple of times to build the notebook by scratch on his end as he entered the request for each component of the configuration. Everything was fine until we hit that video card. I was then on hold off and on for a while so he could check with other departments and such. He came back and said very clearly that if I wanted the Intel integrated video, he could order the system right away with every other feature (including the brighter LED screen); his system showed that all the other elements of the build were immediately available.

It was when I asked about the "Studio XPS" rumor that I heard was coming out in November that he talked about "after the holidays." (Again, LOTS of information was being exchanged, so it's possible he was either mistaken, misinformed, or merely trying to rush me to a quick sale of an alternative build.)

Well, I know this is a bit silly, but there is a vanity factor for me regarding the difference between the current Studio 17 and the leaked pics of the new units coming our way. I actually like the clean, full-colored appearance of the current Studio models better than anything I'm seeing in the future. It's not the biggest factor in my choice for my next laptop, but it has certainly been a deal-breaker regarding some of my alternatives. (There are some nice units out there that I think look just plain ugly and clunkly. I like a lot of the features in some of the more "gaming" focused notebooks, but then they have to go with some weird color trim, or funny patterns on the cover, or ridges, or... I dunno... something that shouts "Gamer!" instead of a more streamlined "Professional with Pizazz!" approach. I realize the pics we're seeing of the new Dell are just production models that need to be refined, and perhaps they will include materials that won't be fingerprint magnets like the current pics appear. I could certainly live with one of those designs. But, heck... that Plum Purple is just plain ol' sweet! *BIG GRIN*)

Studio 1737 is gone from Dell US site. Earlier today the price was increased. Now Studio 17 page is back to the status it was on Wednesday (no studio 1737).

That's a pretty big mistake to release it two months before. But it would make up for releasing the Studio XPS three months late, kind of.

It's still there, but yes the price did increase considerably. When the Dell Studio 1537 came out, configuration options and pricing was still being tweaked by Dell. This comes as no surprise for the Studio 1737 just coming out. I would wait until a shipping date on the configuration pages show up and an announcement by Dell is made before placing an order. The SOUND configuration page has 2 options, I highly doubt Dell is done tweaking the Studio 1737. Just give it some time. Know that the refresh has finally come though.

Glad to see that both Studio models now have the newest processors and wireless adapters, but.....why did it take DELL so long to roll out the Studio 1537 (months after everyone else) and then another month or more to release the 1737? The Inspiron and XPS models need to transition over to the not-so-new-anymore Intel platform NOW!

It's almost embarrassing that Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics is standard on so many Dell models still. The Centrino2/Montevina platform has been around for almost six months now!!! The best feature, in my opinion, of the new Intel platform isn't the new processors or the wireless adapters, it's the Intel 4500MHD integrated graphics!

I've seen some test scores of several laptops with either the 2.0GHz T3200 (Pentium Dual Core) or 2.0GHz T5800 along with the Intel 4500MHD integrated graphics. I was very impressed by the overall performance of all of them. The Inspiron 15 has the new processors (T3200 and T5800) but the crappy Intel X3100 puts it at a disadvantage to a lot of competitors. It's really a shame, too...because even after almost a year, the Inspiron 15 looks and "feels" a lot better than some of its better performing rivals.

I was having a similar discussion with another NBR user earlier this week, but I helped him find a solution! There is a great Dell laptop with the newest Intel processors AND the Intel 4500MHD- pick your size, 14.1" or 15.4"- they're called the Latitude E5400 and E5500! With the 2.26GHz P8400 and Intel 4500MHD, the E5400 starts at $739 and E5500 at $769, can't beat that!

I just placed this order yesterday. Does it mean I've got Montevina? (or not necessarily?)
Also, it says the screen is "glossy" but also near the bottom of the list, "anti-glare." I wonder what that's all about?

I have a couple questions about the Studio 1737 I ordered. My specs are here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4127431&postcount=9

    1) I ordered the RGB LED 1920x1200 screen. It was $250 more than the base screen and $100 more than the regular 1920x1200 LCD screen.

It is still listed on Dell's webpage as being an option, yet you guys are saying it doesn't come out until January and so does the ppt file from Dell that Jayson gave a link to.........................

So am I going to get the RGB LED screen on my computer that I paid EXTRA for when it ships on the 19th? Or is Dell just going to say I have it on my receipt but really just rip me off and actually send me the cheaper LCD screen???

I know when the Studios first came out Dell's webpage and receipts were sayint the 1920x1200 screens were LED, but they really were NOT.

    2) My Studio 1737 is supposed to have the bluetooth module in it. They sent me 2 order numbers, 1 for the computer and 1 for the bluetooth module. It says the bluetooth module will ship on 11/14 and the computer will ship on 11/19.

WHY would they not just install the bluetooth module into the computer at the factory????? Especially if it's available BEFORE the computer? Wouldn't I have to open up the computer to to install it if they send it first? I REALLY don't want to have to do that.

    3) Also, it's not available on the regular Dell page, but I ordered on the Dell epp page and they had an option of the webcam having "Facial Recognition" ......... do you think that was a mistake that will cause problems?

I pulled the trigger and ordered a Studio 17 as well, also with the RGB LED screen. I spoke with my salesman about the very same thing, and he assured me that it would be the RGB LED screen; it was a separate configuration order both on his end as well as if you order via the web site. He said they show both screens as in-stock and ready for configuration.

Great question. My order shows the same thing. When I placed the order over the phone, my sales guy didn't mention an after-delivery installation required. I'm not keen about opening up the machine to make the installation. I may give it a try, or I may call tech support and make them send someone by to put it in. (It would be a good opportunity to meet my local Dell technician, I suppose.)

Really? Interesting. Didn't know about that. (I probably wouldn't want it anyways; the inexpensive fingerprint reader addon is more than I've ever had as it is.) Let us know what you end up getting and how it works.

My machine is scheduled for the exact same delivery dates as yours. I'll race ya in setting it up and posting pics... :D

Did anybody notice that the Montevina Studio 1737 now comes with the 64 bit version of Vista standard?

I cancelled my original order today.........
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4127431&postcount=9

.......... and re-rdered the same configuration so that I could have the 64 bit without having to go through the trouble of installing it myself. :D

Now my expected ship date is 12/1 instead of 11/19 ...... which wasn't going to happen anyway because today is the 18th and it was still in the "build stage".

I did the same exact same thing as you. My 1st delayed shipment was the 19th, and that wasn't gonna happen either. I got the 64 bit vista, 2.53Ghz processor and the rgb led high def screeen. My shipping day is still 12/1, but I have an odd feeling that I'll get this new configuration sooner than the old one, since they were phasing out some of the parts Needed for mine and probably were running low. We will see how many delays I get THIS time.

Also, with less options on OS, ram, and processor, I'd imagine the production would be faster. We will see.

Call the Dell automated order status line and check 1-800-433-9014. Mine still says 12/1 to ship when I check online but when I call that number it tells me it will ship on 11/24.

I ordered my Studio 17 with the RGB LED panel on 11/13 and it was supposed to ship on 11/24 but Im having real doubts that this will happen. When I call for the status it says it is in the "testing stage" but this hasnt changed for a couple of days. Now I see on the Dell site no more option for this panel. Well if they ran out of this type panel I hope they built mine before this happened. Guess I will find out next week.

RE: RGB LED no longer offered... Actually, I think it's a problem with Dell's website's 1001 ways to get to the same configurator.

As in, if you just go to dell.com and click on the first Studio 17 link you see, then no, I can't see the RGB LED option anymore either. However, if you keep clicking and get to the configurator in another way - like if you click on the "Premium Laptop Deals" - it's a green banner add - then you do get to a configurator that still allows the selection of the RGB LED.

Additionally, the EPP entry points (at least my EPP entry point) still allow RGB LED selections. I just ordered one on Saturday. Then again... I hope it was "for real"

Well that is reassuring if you ordered one with the RGB LED on Sat. Mine is due to ship tomorrow but still hasnt moved from the production stage.

I hope this isn't off-topic... But, this is actually my second Montevina Studio17 order. My first should have been in this coming Monday or Tuesday. Unfortunately, I panicked and canceled when I saw that the Bluetooth module was due to be shipped separately.

AFAIK, a "BT Module" is usually an internal thing - even with an integrated indicator light above the keyboard. And I really didn't feel like cracking a brand new laptop open to install anything...

AFTER I canceled (and during my re-order) the Dell rep explained that the BT module is now User-installable - via a slot - and not one of the usual expansion slots - a slot specifically for that purpose.

Can anyone confirm or expand on that? I had a 1735 earlier this year and the BT module was really (really-really) NOT User-installable at that time...
