I just updated the bios to the latest A05 revision. No my fan never turns off. Im using ik8fangui and the cpu temperature will be down to around 30 degrees C and it still wont turn off.
I've tried to use automatic control using ik8fangui but then the computer will becamse slow and i'll have no mouse control.
Even before the update, the fan would turn on at around 45 degrees C and turn off at around 35. I just assumed this was normal? Could anyone tell me?
My brother just got his 1737 and the cpu on that is probably so much better. His fan will only turn on when he is using his laptop to watch movies. The fan on my 1735 would turn on even when it was doing nothing.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
i8kfangui doesn't really work well with newer machines; I don't think it's been updated in years now. Roll back to an earlier BIOS. If that doesn't solve the problem, you may be looking at a hardware fault.

It seems as thought the new BIOS is set to kick the fan in at lower temperatures. Whereas before the update the fan would kick in at around 45 degrees C, now it kicks in at around 33. It will turn of around 27 degrees.
Still need to try an older bios though, haven't had much time right now because of exams. -
Great, going back to an older BIOS has done nothing. I tried going nacl to A04 and A03 but still the fan is pretty much on from anything above 30 degrees C, which is really how hot the cpu is most of the time. Now the fan is constantly on low.
Looks like I have to ring Dell and put up with the crap they give on the phone.
*update*
After a tedious hour with technical support telling me to do pointless things like removing my hard drive?, dell have finally decided to replace the motherboard on my laptop with one of their prestigous "engineers".
Second time its getting replaced now, makes me regret getting a 1735 last year. My brother got his 1737 just last week. The build quality is jsut so much more better on them. No keyboard flex, runs faster and cooler. -
Constant on low speed fan is typical for 1535 and 1735...
IT IS NOT ISSUE!
