Hey there!
My touch pad driver recently stopped working the other day. I had not noticed because I always use my VX Nano, but I was out of the house with the laptop for once and had no pointing device when I booted up. I re-downloaded the Synaptics driver that I had installed previously, but it didn't work. I had to install the Dell driver to get it to work, but on install I noticed it saying it was an Alps, not a Synaptics.
What gives with this? I even remember seeing other posts on here saying to forgo the Dell driver when installing windows and to use the Synaptics driver.
One other thing, if I am stuck with the Alps based driver, is there anywhere to directly download it, and is there a way to turn it off when an external mouse is plugged in? The installation of the Synaptics driver that worked allowed me to turn off the touch pad when an external mouse was plugged in.

I'm just using the standard driver (Alps) that comes from Dell's driver page, and when you open Mouse properties in the Windows Control Panel, there is an option to open the Dell Touchpad settings. One of these allows you to disable the touchpad while you have a mouse plugged in.

Thanks Mastershroom. I found the setting. I was beginning to freak out about the possibility that I couldn't turn off the darn thing, because I use the VX Nano all the time and rarely use the touch pad. The other day was the first time in several months.
