Hello all. I decided to redo another thread about Windows XP Pro 32-bit drivers that will work with the Studio 1737 Laptop. These drivers may work with the 1735, 1555, and 1535 lines as well (except for the Chipset).

Please note the components of the system I purchased. (Below) If you have any of the same components, then you're good to go. I'll post other drivers as well that I find along the way in this journey of getting the Studio line to function properly on Windows XP Pro 32-bit.

My Studio 1737 main components purchased in Sept, 2009.
    Intel Core 2 Duo P7350, 2.0GHz, 1066Mhz, 3M L2 Cache
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
    Intel 5100 Wireless-N (1x2) Half Mini-Card
    Broadcom ethernet
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi MB (the particular Creative software I have will not install on XP, but the IDT Audio drivers are needed)
Back-lit Keyboard (no application for this in XP. Just press the FN and RIGHT arrow)

Also, I'd like to add these observations.
    1. Touch Pad (black plate above the keypad) -- The Volume, Pause, Stop, Eject controls work, but the Volume Up and Down ONSCREEN Diagram doesn't appear. BUT IT DOES WORK, JUST KEEP TAPPING THE VOLUME BUTTONS, and you'll notice the Volume fluctuates.
    2. For Battery and Power Screen brightness to be the same... Press FN and the UP/Down Key. Then unplug Power cord, and repeat for the brightness to be the same when unplugged.
    3. For Back Lit Keyboard to work...Press FN and the RIGHT ARROW. Repeat this action to dim, and turn off.

To avoid a mile long thread, I'll continuously update this 1st post to keep all the drivers I find on top of this thread.

Before installing the ATI 3650 drivers, you'll need to install the Dotnetfx first. Vista already has this installed, but XP doesn't.

Have you tried using the above link? I'm not 100% sure if the drivers I posted above are specifically for 256mb or 512mb. It should work as long as it's the ATI 3650. I'll check on this though.

The drivers will be the same for the 256MB or 512MB version. They're the same card otherwise.

Also, the GM45 chipset is only for 1737's with the Intel 4500MHD graphics. Models with the ATi 3650 have PM45. Also, it will not work for any of the **35 models (1535 or 1735), since they have the older PM/GM965 chipsets.

Didn't know that. I'm still testing. I only listed what is working on this 1737 I recently got.

For Dell Original Chipset drivers, go HERE to Dell's sight and choose "Drivers and Downloads". Then select your model.

Yes, you'll need 64 bit drivers. This thread is about XP drivers anyway.

I can run the Modder on the latest ATi download, but it doesn't seem to work on the latest download from Dell. Could be the file difference with Dell. I'm not sure. I might be doing something wrong since I'm not accustomed to using ATI. I prefer nVidia. Never was much of an ATI fan.

You don't need to run Mobility Modder on the driver from Dell; they've basically already modded it.

The way it works is, ATi doesn't release Mobility drivers. Rather, they give the drivers to laptop OEMs like Dell, who then modify the drivers themselves and release them to us, meaning that we have to rely on our manufacturers for updated drivers, which is something that they normally don't stay on top of.

Thanks to Mobility Modder, we, the end users, basically get to skip the whole process of relying on Dell to release mobility drivers for us.
Mobility Modder is a free tool that allows you to download the latest driver from a desktop version of an ATi card (e.g. download the desktop Radeon 3650 driver since you have a Mobility Radeon 3650), and modify it to install on a mobility card. So, get the desktop driver, download and run Mobility Modder, mod the downloaded desktop driver, and then run it like normal and it will install like a mobility driver.

Here's the modder's website, containing the download link and some useful information.

If you're on a 64-bit operating system, yes. Mobility Modder works with both 32 and 64 bit drivers, luckily, and it leaves the driver signing intact, so it doesn't cause issues with Vista x64. :)

When I try to install that ATi file from Dell, I get an error message, and it won't install at all. I've tried the Modder on the files left behind, and can't get it to install...even after using the Modder.
Those drivers are for Vista 64-bit. I'm testing XP Pro 32-bit.

Just download the XP driver from ATi, and run Mobility Modder on it. It works with XP and Vista.
