My first post on any form in some time.
I have read all the threads on upgrading my 1737 to a Q9000. I would have to say it is trully amazing how little everybody really knows on the subject. I got out of the computer world for awhile... Well okay you got me its been since 2005 and things have changed. No I'll take that back, there is really no new technologies, just faster old ones. Well getting back to the reason for the post.
I have ordered a Q9000 from newegg for around $369.00. I am having it over nighted and it will be here tomorrow(Sept 10-2010) I have read everything that atomickitten has posted on the matter and I have decided to do what would seem that only one person has done. Sooo really its still a UL(Urban Legend). I have searched and searched for somebody to confirm this. I hope I get some kind of response so I can compare brain pans(thoughts).

I have recieved the Fedex tracking from newegg and it shows standard over night, I also have been looking for a heat sink replacement for the NB(northbridge) I am sure I will find something since there is the web at my finger tips. However if anybody has any ideas please feel free to confess.

Well I recieved the cpu from Fedex. The cpu had been shipped in a bag yeah a bag and a very simple weak thin walled box inside the bag. The box was squashed on one side due to what i believe was some thing heavy. I saw no pins bent so turned off my 1737 removed the battery and unpluged it. I then waited a few minutes to let it cool and let the capacitor's & resistors drain. I then unscrewed the cpu heatsink cooling pipe. released the cpu retaining screw. I then removed the T4200 that was in my 1737. I placed in oso very carefully the new Q9000 into the socket and dabbed some Artic Silver5 all over the two cores. I then reseated the heatsink cooling pipe. Put the rear panel back on, slid the battery back into place plugged the power back into my 1737.

Took a deep breath and pushed the power button and you guessed it nothing happened. I then pushed the power button again and nothing.
I check recheck and check and recheck for 4hr and still nothing. Called Newegg and said I believe I have DOA and would take the cpu to a computer shop to make sure.

So at this point I will not claim that the Q9000 quad core 45w cpu doesn't work with my 1737. I will wait for the second chip and go from there.

Atomickitten still at this point is the only person to get it to work :(

I had to make sure the Q9000 was DOA before declaring failure. So I took it a place that could test to see if it was a bad chip. Yes indeed it was a bad chip. THis sucks because i now have to wait for another one to come in. But on the other hand it is good because this means there is hope.

I found out from Atomickitten that we have simular mobos but Atomic has the PM45 NB chipset and I have the Gm45 NB chipset. we both have the same SB which happens to be the Intel 8280 1IM (ICH9-M) with version A08 BIOs. We both have the same REV 07 and of course the model # is different.

So the 2 differences of mobos is that Atomickitten has the PM45 chipset and the 3650 ATI vga 512 and i have the GM45 chipset and the not so bad if you don't play games Intel HD4500 vga.

So I am waiting on the new chip, and we will then go from there.

It would seem that I have been defeated by this challenge of trying to upgrade my 1737 from a T4200 to a Q9000. I am not sure what is causing the issue at this time. I am kinda of looking towards DELL, my beliefe is that DELL just made my mobo version a 800 fsb for what ever reason, because everything points to my mobo should be able to handle a fsb speed of 1066. If anybody were to actually read this thread that might know if there is any jumpers to change (which I know is really doubtfull) or is there a way to change the fsb in your bios in windows like from Phoenix bio editor please please send the info my way. Well until then I will have to say that you have a mobo that has the Intel GM45 express chipset along with the Intel HD4500 vga on a revision 07 mobo with starting(came with from the factory)cpu of a T4200 the upgrade to a Q9000 is not possible.( now its possible that I got 2 in a row bad cpus but not likely, but possible). I, just like David Banner will indeed continue searching for the answer.

I just want to thank everybody for all the wonderfull on line help I got through this thread.

I truley felt i was speaking directly to Dell's phone service hotline

    Thanks again until next time.
