According to the thread Studio 1737 can upgrade to Q9000?, the Q9100 is compatible, with at least one user confirming their 1737 boots fine with it, however with the Q9100 installed, the 1737 refuses to POST. The couple of times I can get it to POST and boot, as soon as the BIOS screen hands off to boot from a HDD/USB, it throws the following errors, displays them for ~2s, then reboots:
    • pci system error on bus/device/function 0100h
      • Normally refers to a bad CPU or main board
    • pci system error on bus/device/function 0101h
      • Normally refers to a bad CPU or main board
Occasionally, but not always, the mute LED light will flash, of which normally indicates:
    • To reseat the CPU
    • To replace the CPU
    • To replace the motherboard / system board
I say normally because the system will operate fine with a T9800 installed, and I've ruled out a bad CPU, as I've gotten this message now on two different Q9100s.
    • I can pop a T9800 in immediately following a refusal to POST, and it boots up fine.
While it's possible I received two bad CPUs back to back, it's highly unlikely. Does the 1737 BIOS white list only certain CPUs for different 1737s, dependent upon the original configuration, as the 9000, 9100, and extreme edition 9300 quad cores have been verified to work successfully in 1737s?
    • I can get it to POST occasionally by holding down the FN key while powering on, or by removing the CMOS battery, and can access the BIOS, as well as Boot Options, when I do, however as soon as it tries to hand off to a usb drive or hdd to boot from, it reboots
