OK Dell experts. I have a Studio 1737 that goes to sleep randomly. So far I've replaced the inverter board and backlight bulb. I've flashed the BIOS to the latest A09. The backlight bulb will turn off even booted to just BIOS so I believe the issue is hardware related. If you close the lid and open it the screen will come on. I can take a small magnet and move it across just below the touch pad and the screen will come back on. The screen will not come back on if you touch the pad or any key on the keyboard. The research I've done via Google is pointing toward the reed switch. So, is it a bad reed switch or do I have another problem. The only thing I haven't replaced is the video data cable going the the LCD screen. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated...Thks

Alter the sleep settings in your power options so that Windows no longer automatically puts the computer to sleep for any reason at all ( ‪Windows 7 - Turn off the sleep mode‬‏ - YouTube)

Also, make sure your lid closing options are set to "do nothing." Does the problem still happen with these settings? If so, you obviously have a hardware issue. You have to rule out any potential problems with the software before you can be certain about the reed switch or video cables.

Can the laptop be fixed under warranty?
