Hi guys!
I am about to order Studio 1737 with WUXGA 1920x1200 CCFL screen. I would like to find out if there are different panels available (LG, Samsung, etc) or if there is just one CCFL panel.
If there are different panels, which is the best? Is there a way to order the laptop with the specific panel or is it just a lottery?
I've recently returned Studio 1737 with RGB LED screen because I wasn't happy with that screen:

I think that you should rebuild your 1737 with an ATI card so you can adjust the colors and saturation.
I feel you I was about to return my 1737 RGB LED screen as well due to its bad out of the box colors, But Thankfully I fixed those issues.
Its 2009 I could not justify going with a CCFL panel, LED is much brighter saves battery power you name it. And Delivers better colors than CCFL
at least go with the 1440x900 LED panel -
I am so over wide gamut RGB LEDs ....... ;-)

It is funny that people are having the same problems with wide gamut home monitors such as the Dell 3007WFP-HC 30 inch. OUt of the box there are problems with oversaturated colors, too much red etc. The point is that these monitors CAN be calibrated to look very nice if you take the time.
This is the same with the Studio 17 RGB-LED. This monitor CAN be calibrated.
I have had monitors in the past that could NOT be calibrated which I returned. If you have Nvidia or integrated graphics it makes it more difficult because of the lack of adjustments. ATI has more adjustments so this makes it a lot easier. -
Im not sure if the Studio 17 is using the same panel as the XPS M1730. The 1730 was using 3 different panels.........Samsung, Sharp and LG and there was no way of telling which one you would get. I initially got the LG and sent it back because it was terrible.........didnt look good no matter how much you tried to calibrate or adjust it. I then got the Samsung which looked a lot better but wasnt that bright. These were all the regular CCFL type screens.

I am gonna buy a Spyder 3 calibrate my and return the Spyder 3.
not thats its bad now, I just can't go back to 72% NTSC color gamut, having gotten use to 105% NTSC wide gamut RGB LED.
the 17 RGB LED is great and the display is awesome

I tested this out at the Apple store, and even their most expensive Display had noticeable banding
where as the 17 RGB LED is silky smooth
another test is I lowered my backlight brightness to its lowest on my 1737 with the RGB LED and its perfectly readable useable colors are good.
But when you take a 15 MackBook Pro down that low its un-useable its so Dim. -
Yea I was thinking of getting one of those Spyder 3s too since I seem to be getting many wide gamut monitors. The Dell 3007WFP-HC will need it and plus it will improve my S17 RGB-LED screen calibration too.
