I'm having some pretty big problems with the wireless on my 1737. It has the Intel 5300 card installed.

I have an 802.11a/n router, the AVM Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7270. It worked perfectly fine with my previous laptop, an Acer Aspire 5920G with an Intel 4965 but with the Studio it constantly drops off. On Wednesday it disconnected and reconnected 51 times in 5 hours! Setting the router back to 2.4 GHz seems to reduce the disconnects but not remove them entirely (2.4 is clogged in my area so that's why I'm using 5). The thing is, I tried a 4965 card in the Studio and that was dropping off too. So here's my question...

Is the internal antenna on the Studios just rubbish at 5 GHz? Is there anything I can do short of using a USB dongle or wired connection? There's no other 5 GHz routers in my area and the Acer worked fine so I doubt it's interference.

My 1535 has the Intel 5300 card, and it works just fine with N-band routers. Does the connection drop at public WiFi hotspots? Try it out at a café or something.

Try changing the wireless channels on both router and on 5530card and save them.
What happen if you select all bands(A,B.G.N) plus 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz ON YOUR 5530 CARD?

I already tried changing the channels on the router, I don't see how or where I could do it on the card itself except for the ad-hoc settings in Device Manager, which aren't really relevant. I haven't tried it on a public hotspot but it does disconnect on my cousin's wireless connection.

5530? Is that a typo or are you referring to the HSDPA card? I do have one alright.

    Interesting twist here...

I was stripping down a HP dv2000 laptop last night whose motherboard had failed due to the NVIDIA "bad bumps" problem. It had a full height Intel 4965 wireless card in it so I thought "hey, what have I to lose" and put it in the 1737. I had to remove the 5530 card because, being a HP card, it was full height. The Wi-Fi LED doesn't work but the connection is solid, I've had it on since 7pm last night (it's 3pm now) and it hasn't disconnected once. But the last time I tried a 4965 it didn't work properly so now I'm wondering could the 5530 HSDPA card be interfering with the wireless?
