I have a Studio 1745.
My original LCD screen started displaying vertical lines through the middle of it and only the left half of the screen was visible. I could use an external monitor with no problems.
I replaced my original screen with a new one and it worked great for about 3-4 weeks and then started experiencing the same issues as the first one. While waiting for a warranty replacement I ordered and installed another new screen. The new screen is dim and flickering. I hooked up the first replacement screen to check it and it is also now dim.
Any ideas on what could be the problem?
I have read that the inverter and/or backlight could be the problem. I can only find very limited documentation regarding the Studio 1745 and can find nothing that shows me where the inverter is located. Other Dell laptops show the inverter at the base of the LCD or behind the LCD, but my 1745 does not have one in either of these locations.
I apologize if this is covered in another post but I cannot search this forum, I just get an error message every time I try.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Could be an issue with the display cable... did you replace that as well? The 1745 is new enough such that many panels may have built-in inverters instead of discrete daughterboards.

Yes, I did replace the display cable to eliminate it as a potential problem.

Hello,
As you confirm that the issue is still persists, even after the LCD and the cable replacement, you could try connecting your laptop to an external monitor/screen and do check if the display is fine on the external monitor.
If the display is fine on the external monitor, it confirms that the issue is related to the display card, which is on the Motherboard.
Kindly revert with the results, we would be more than glad to assist you.

I have the same (i think) problem with my Studio 1745. the screen was cracked so I replaced it. The new screen works fine apart from the brightness is at minimum and can not be altered. The controls still work, the graphic appears on screen and the slider goes up and down but it doesn't effect the actual screen brightness. I've heard it could be a surface mounted fuse near the display connector on the motherboard but I can't find it. Anyone had any results with this?
