2 years ago i ordered a Vostro 1700 that took ages to arrive because of i think back then screen supply problems.

Now we ordered a few new Studio 1747 with the Core i7 820 procs the order date was 1 December.. But now i got a mail that the delivery date is pushed back to 17 of February!! Wooot???

It seems that dell is many times just saying that you can order new systems but most of the time they can deliver one bit?

Its orderd from dell.nl, how are other orders doing in Europa? Are the 1747 with the Core i7 being delivered in the states?

You are not alone Joco. I ordered mine on december 2nd with an EDD of dec. 25th. Got pushed back to Jan 18th.

I called and asked why they said it was back order on the wifi card as well as the 1080 screen.

What I find irritating is the fact that people on this forum have built very similar spec'ed machines and had them delivered already!

Have you familiarized yourself with the power throttling issues this laptop has? If not, using the long delivery times gives you a good out to cancel the order.

rb the Display/WiFi answer is canned (I am pretty sure). I got the same excuse, then I was told the base unit wasn't available, after which it was the processor. I ordered a 1745 on 11/12 and my EDD is now 1/8. My computer is in the boxing stage, but has been there for 6 days now. If you are thinking about buying a Studio 17 expect a two month wait, regardless of what Dell tells you.

Wouldn't surprise me. To be honest I take everything they say with a grain of salt. On one hand, they took the 1080p screen of the options - could be s ign of shortage? On the other hand, they could have taken it off due to the power throttling people complain of to make it less noticeable to most users (900p screen takes up less power = more power for CPU).

Either way dell needs to step up their game.

    I ordered mine (1080p screen/Wireless N) on Dec. 15, right away I got an EDD of 22/2/2010.

Not too thrilled about it, however I've seen one in person, and the 1080 screen is absolutely stunning, the 900+ screen does not even compare. (Worst screen ever IHMO)

No one else right now offers a combination of the features I want, so I have to wait.

I'm fairly confident that there IS a shortage of 1080p screens, if you order the base machine, with a 900p screen and no "mods" you'll get an EDD of about 3 weeks.

Well, I had a pretty customized machine (1745) but all basic stuff (better processor, wireless n, larger hard drive). I ordered on 11/12/09 and just received notice that it will be here on Tuesday. Assuming it arrives on Tuesday, it will be a 54 day wait, so plan accordingly.

my account manager of dell keeps telling me that it is the webcam that has the delivery problems, not the screen itself...

But if the 900P is being sent out doesnt it have the same webcam?

Wow, that's quite a wait. I ordered mine with faster proc, wireless-n and 1080p screen on 11/27 and got it on 12/10 (2-day shipping though). Dell build and shipping order is quite weird.

If someone does not have to customize, just get it from Microcenter/Frys/Whatever B&M, IMO.
