I bought this new Studio 1535 couple of days back. After the initial installation was complete, everything was working fine. Then I installed Yahoo Messenger and logged into it. I logged in successfully but then my Audio stopped working. I was not even able to run any music through Media Player. The Device Manager did not show anything wrong with any device. But the audio on my laptop stopped working.
Then I restarted my laptop. The Audio started working. But when I again logged into Yahoo Messenger, Audio stopped working.
Same problem occurred while using Gtalk. But it works fine with Skype.
I logged a complain with Dell Support for this problem. They acknowledged the issue and told me that this is known bug with IDT Audio Driver. But they refused to give any date for availability of the patch.![]()
Has anyone else faced and reported this problem before? Until the patch is rolled out, do I have any work around to get my YM and Gtalk working?
Thanks

even i am facing the same problem.. any solutions which i can try ??

I'm having those problems too, Dell is getting on my nerves with the drivers... It can't be right, that they don't update these... I hope they do it soon.
-
Yep....me too....the audio setup for Yahoo just says that "your audio devices are being used by some other program..."!!! I just can't make speaker and mic work inside the YM

Not sure if this helps, but I had similar issues with quite a few programs, mainly some online games and such, and the problem was in no way related to the computer, but rather Vista. I remember there was no contant solution, it just had to do with the audio being formatted in a way that Vista doesn't like. The only temperary solution I was given was to run the program in question, go into task manager/services, then stop the service called "audiosrv", then start the service again, then go and restart the program in question. Be warned that this can actually stop the audio from working on other programs, but I'm not sure which. Either way, everything is reset when you restart your computer. So might be worth a try. Until yahoo decides to update how their messanger client works, so its more compatible with Vista, there is little that can be done. (Either that or get Vista to change their audio system to a better one... but like that would ever happen.) Hope this helps.

Did anybody find an answer to this question? I seriously will have a hard time getting by without google talk....

Welcome to the forum. Please click on this link to download compatible Yahoo Messenger for Dell Studio 1535.

This works for me and so far my audio has not disappeared. As for Gtalk, I have no solution as of yet.
Now if your laptop really has no audio whatsoever, you should contact Dell as that is more than just a minor problem. Hope this helps. -
Or you could download Pidgin which will consolidate Yahoo, googletalk, AIM and numerous other IM clients into one that shouldnt crash the audio driver. Found from a NBR thread:

FIXED!
I already fixed reinstalling the driver from dell updated 9/sep/2008 version 6.10.0.6047, a08.
That driver fix the problem, just install, restart and gtalk an yahoo work just fine.
Bye -
The newest driver does solve the problem. There is also a YIM version 9 that is specifically catered toward Vista and it did not have the audio problem. You may want to try the new version anyhow. -
hurray !! finally was able to login to gtalk after updating the driver !! thanks a lot....
