I have written about peculiar problem that my Studio has - the sound popping and skipping after some time of playback from CD/DVD (doesn't come when I play the stored media and its much less if I keep my 1397 WiFi off).

Yesterday Dell engineer came and tried various things. He opened it up and re-fixed all connectors plus he did something really odd. He downgraded my BIOS from A05 to A03. He had no real explanation for it, its just that he wanted to do it.

It made my touch media buttons work again (which strangely had stopped working just when he came), the sound problem "seems" gone but I need to run longer tests.

He had actually brought a new mother board and another 1397 card, which I didn't let him change without a proper explanation !!!

Now Dell is waiting for my feedback before they close the call

to be honest,DELL India sucks!

    22 July: Studio 17 arrived(T8300,3gb,Ati,1440*900,Backlit,Fingerprint)
27 July: The entire panel containing media buttons failed. They would not even light up when i would touch them...and obviously the were not working at all.
29 July: Service Engineer dropped in....i think he was a newbie...he looked very nervous. He installed the replacement media button dashboard but they still would not work. He said it was a failed IC chip behind the dashboard
1 Aug : Another Service Engineer dropped in.....this time with another dashboard and a new motherboard. He installed both of them and the problem partly went away with the first few buttons working...the eject button was not. Maybe that was a motherboard issue so the problem was partly corrected. This service engineer ended up breaking a key of the keyboard....and he was struggling to fix the entire keyboard properly....the keyboard surface became uneven I was absolutely furious...and asked him to stop all the repair work..then i rang up Dell next morning and demanded a replacement laptop......i had a lot of trouble just to convince DELL how bad my system was.....I even sent them pictures of my system(broken key etc)which may arrive in a week's time from now. I hope i get the system with the "Revised Motherboard" as the current one has a lot of issues.

Well...one of the trouble is that an average user at this forum already knows 10 times more than the average service engineer Dell will send :)

Most of their engineers are worthless period. I have been trying to explain the color banding and they barely get it. They are remotely installing flash card readers and sound drivers.

"I see 5 colors instead of a million creating a smooth effect"

"When would colors change like that?"

    "Oh like..shadows and..everything"
