I need some help. I am trying to decide between a similarly configured Studio XPS or a Studio 17. Both systems would have i7-720, 500 GB HD, 6-8 RAM, Blu-ray, Bluetooth, 1080P screen (B+RG on Studio 17), wimax wifi, 9 cell battery, etc. XPS has ATI 5730 graphics card and Studio 17 has 4650.

If money isn't the problem, I should take the Studio XPS. Considered the better graphics card.

Thanks. Any thoughts on the WLED 1080p screen on the XPS vs the B+RG 1080p screen on the studio 17?

It comes down to what you want it for. Mostly gaming? Then go for the better graphics card. You're gonna be carrying it around? Go for the smaller n' lighter machine. If it's not going anywhere, then portability is not such an issue.

I pondered the choice like you, then went for the Studio 17 - the B+RG screen is mind-blowingly good, well, compared to my old lappie (HP dv6 with CFL screen). The colours and contrast are eye-popping, viewing angles and brightness superb, and the FHD res is what it should be on screen this size. If you mainly want if for watching blue-rays/FHD content and photo-editing - like I do - then the bigger the screen the better. Also I found the Studio suprisingly light, but there's no getting away from it's a good deal bigger than the XPS 16 (which is really 15?)

Also, since the Studio 17 is bigger it's better cooled so more likely to last longer, I'd say, with all that heat-generating GPU+CPU on board, esp if you doing takins stuff like playing games in hi-res. I've read a lot of reviews that the XPS screen blocks the exhaust vent - which seems really dumb - and is prone to over-hearing - check out the threads on this.

I've not seen the two screens side by side, but check out the posts by 'electrosoft' - he really knows his 17's and I believe I recall him posting he even prefered the 17's B+RG FHD screen to the XPS16 RBG, so surely it would be better than WLED. I can say it's the best laptop screen I've ever seen by miles, though I've never looked at really high end pro quality ones, but you're talking $3000+ to get one of those.
