Would the dell Studio 17 be better or the XPS m1530?

Do you mean Studio 15 instead? If you did meant 17 I prefer the m1530 as it has some hardware improvements like a 7200 rpm hard drive and looks much nicer imo. I am also partial to smaller screens.

I wouldn't say one is better than the other. The question should be which one is more right for your specific situation.

Exactly. What will you be doing with the machine?

IMO: There will be no question that the XPS will be a better overall machine. Better built, better options, better service & support... The studio is still an inspiron line so dont think they are going to be using top quality materials.

On top of that, if you are planning on doing any gaming, XPS is the way to go. Plus aside from the illuminated keyboard, the XPS is more aesthetically pleasing and is not as blocky near the back. XPS is also slightly thinner.

Hopefully someone can try to install a Studio keyboard into their M1530 and see if it works. If so, the M1530 wins hands down.

get the studio 17 if you want more customization options and if you don't want to fork out a lot of money for the XPS 1530, but get the XPS if you want to fork out more money
