I am using M1210. Do not know why suddenly can't play any dvd movies.
I tried to play DVD using the dell's Cineplay. After clicking play, the screen turn black and flash awhile back to the Cineplay screen.
If I use WMplayer, it says copyright issue. I am sure my DVD region match with the DVD movies.
Also, tried to play a region free DVD, it can play but no sound at all.

However, it works fine when boot to MediaDirect 2.0.

I DONT WANT TO RESTORE...

Use VLC player to see if you can play ANY dvd movies at all.

I had exactly the same issue in the past few days with my 640m.

I think it's something to do with the 30-day trial of the SB audigy stuff expiring and removing the required codec.

I downloaded the k-lite codec pack 2.80 with media player classic and can now play my DVDs again.

similar thing happened here, but after only 1 week of receiving my notebook. Another thing is, although i've loaded the media player classic, when I watch a realplayer movie online, it's really distorted. Are all these media players interacting/ competing with eachother to try to screw the other ones up?

This is happening for me. I can't remember playing any movies on my e1705. I have only been able to play click and that one movie with brad and angelina being married(seriously forgot the name). I always get a copywrite problem. I have tried a lot of different codecs but I'll try more. None seem to work.

Did you try playing through Windows Media Player? If the other softwares work then I would just simply try reinstalling Cineplay. Maybe a file got corrupted or something.

Apparently Windows Media Player 11 kills Sonic Cineplayer.
There is no fix that I know of.
Rolling back Windows Media Player 11 to Windows Media Player 10 does not help.
Uninstalling and installing Sonic Cineplayer does not help.

Since Sonic Cineplayer is bundled with Dell computers, I assume that all Dell owners are soon to lose DVD playback when they run Windows Update and install Media Player 11.

In my own case I had an old PowerDvd cdrom that had been bundled with a DVD drive. After installing PowerDvd on the m1210, I can play DVD's again.

This is likely to cause quite a ruckus in the near future.

"Sonic Cineplayer Does Not Play DVDs or Has a Distorted Display or Audio Loss
Download the Sonic CinePlayer 3.x Patch
As of December 1, 2006, some Dell Dimension desktops and Inspiron notebooks running Sonic Cineplayer may have begun displaying one or more of the following problems:
    No DVD playback
    Distorted or jittery screen
    Loss of audio
Sonic has provided a patch that corrects this issue."

    Hope it works.

Along the same lines (I just upgraded to WMP 11) if I open and then close Sonic Record Now and try to reopen it wont display nor is it seen on the Windows Task Manager. However, if I reboot I'll get a trying to close program message. Only once I reboot will I be able to reopen the Sonic Record Now.

    Any ideas?

PS I should note I don't have the Sonic player, but PowerDVD and can also play DVD's with WMP. It's the Sonic record programs that seem to be having a problem...

vlc player works, but the playback is jittery. I have installed wmp11 as well. I'm not sure if thats when I noticed the problem, but its extremely annoying and it seems like nothing can fix it. I don't have a stand alone dvd player and don't plan on getting one. I use my 360(which is pretty good), but sometimes it makes more heat than my laptop, which is why I would rather use my laptop, than my 360.

rsbroad, I wish I would have seen this post last night to give it a shot.

I uninstalled and reloaded cineplayer and after restoring my HDD it still didn't work.I spent all night and ran across canonyau post and my media via dvd works fine now. Oh well.. at least it is working now.

Canonyau is a member on this forum (see page 1 of this thread). He/she posted a solution to this problem by downloading and installing media classic. This solved the issue for him back then and myself yesterday.

Media player classic and vlc will play the movies, but they both jerk in out of playing. With Moulan Rouge there was video distortion. I'm thinking I will only get a solution through reformat. I wanted to keep the original dell installation intact, but its seeming like its not going to be a good idea.

also, that patch from dell says that its the wrong version for my application, even though I experience the symptoms.

I think I found part of the problem. I normally have my e1705 hooked up to a 42" lvm 42w2 westinghouse lcd. I got powerdvd 7 and when I tried to load the dvd it said the copy protections activate when the tv out is in use.
