After searching this forum and the web for 3 hours, my issue is still unresolved. Can anyone suggest the best:

    1. M1330 HDMI to Component/Composite/S-Video Adapter/Converter
    2. M1330 VGA to Component/Composite/S-Video Adapter/Converter
    3. Any other solutions to connect M1330 to TV which doesn't have VGA, DVI or HDMI.

There is going to be no such thing as "best" unfortunately. Attaching a computer to a TV with anything besides VGA/DVI/HDMI is going to be worthless for anything besides movie watching. Your computer doesn't have an s-video output? S-video to s-video is the most common connection method for your situation. There are VGA to component adapter cables on eBay that work well if you have a video card that supports TV-out from VGA. They're both cheap enough that I would order a VGA to S-vid and VGA to component and try them both.

call dell to ask about that part.

there are adaptors which go into the s-video output on the laptop, and there's an abundance of choice for what's at the other end to connect to your tv/hifi (eg composite, s-video, rca plugs, digital audio). just find the right one (for me, it was the component/spdif) and they should be able to help you!

A new tv is the "best" part.

    Dell XPS M1330 doesn't have S-Video port.

Dell XPS M1330 can be configured with Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 or 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS. The cable (even with driver/configuration software tweaking) does not work on either of the video cards.

You wouldn't believe but Dell asked me to buy Dell XPS M1530! That was their only solution. I did find that there are scan converters on Dell's site but they seem to be worse than what is available elsewhere for less.

Yes, we all know that. This thread was started to know about connection options to connect M1330 to TV which doesn't have VGA, DVI or HDMI.

Thanks for your responses. I am still trying hard to find a solution.

    oh - didn't realise the 1330 doesn't have s-video output (i have the 1530).

maybe there's some usb devices out there? although, from a quick search, it seems most are for getting video INTO your computer, not out...

I just ordered an m1330 and was debating getting a different laptop for that reason. I did some searching, and one of the cheaper converters that I could fine was this one (which you might have already found):

    http://sewelldirect.com/pc-to-tv.asp

It's only $40+shipping and doesn't seem bulky. I don't think I'm going to end up getting one because the video quality drops so much when you go to composite/svideo that it's only good for viewing videos.

You guys do know that VGA and component are almost the same thing correct?

VGA carries sync seperate (+H+V), component carries sync on green. Look for a VGA to component cable. And you should be good to go.
