New e1505 on its way with just - "512MB, DDR2, 533MHz 1 Dimm for Inspiron 6400/E1505 " and 60 gig 5400rpm HD (got a good deal with this config, so will upgrade on my own). What memory dimm should I use to take this to 1 meg of best bang for buck (another 512 dimm or sell the 512 dimm and buy a single 1 gig dimm)? Also, can someone point me to a visual on how to upgrade the ram & hard drive on an e1505. Is the Hitachi Travelstar 7200rpm, the best performing hard drive for the e1505?

Here is the guide to your laptop:

Personally, I would go with transcend from newegg.com. You can get 1 stick of 1gb for around 80 bucks. As far as what you should upgrade to, that really depends on your uses. If you are gamer, it is recommended for 2 gb. If you aren't, then I would just get an additional 1gb stick, and use it with your 512.

Hitachi is very well known, and the 7200 is pretty good IMO. I haven't had any problems with it. Of course, it is really a user preference too.

G.skill has a 1GB stick for $70, and OCZ has a 1GB stick for $68 (after rebate). Both very good deals, from newegg. How big of a HD are you looking for? I would go with either a Hitachi or Segate 7200 RPM depending on the price. Both are very good.

Yeah, I order 2 gb of the OCZ. I read many good reviews about it so i decided to order it. BTW the difference between 667 and 533 is not that noticeable. So you might as well go for the 533 selection.

667 will make about a 5% increase in performance but it can be less stable than 533. I recommend using crucial ram or corsair
