I'm stuck on a difficult choice; can you help me please? :confused2:

I'm searching for a new laptop, and actually my search have taken me to choose between an Inspiron 1720 and a XSP m1530, at almost the same price with WXGA+

Both would be ok for my needs but i've some doubts.

    1) Is true that the Inspiron 1720 WXGA+ LCD is still not very good as i saw in some review? And that the UWXGA+ is amazing?

    2) What resolution would you suggest for my needs? I mostly use it for programming&browsing so text reading is really important. I've read 15" WXGA+ for 15" and WSXGA+ for 17"; do you confirm?

The 17" would be better, but if i need to pay for the UWXGA+ and the fonts are too small, i'd prefer save some money with XPS that is an amazing machine from benchmarks.

    What's your suggestion?

I can also wait 1-2 months. Do you think some new model will arrive soon?

Another little question: i didn't find anywhere if the 1720 have hw raid. Who knows?

Resolution is a personal preference. Go to a computer store near you and see for yourself. If you go to an Apple store - Macbook Pros 15.4" are WXGA+, and 17" are WSXGA+ and UWXGA+.
Dell also offers WSXGA+ resolution for M1530's.

between the 1720 and 1530 i chose the 1530 because i don't really need such an extreme resolution and have to carry it all the time so less weight is good

if you have the patience to wait 2 months, do so, it will probably save you money

    EDIT:

Don't know if it has hardware RAID but don't think so, software RAID is just as good

I ordered my 1720 with the high res screen and ive been told by people on here that it is the UWXGA screen, it is also in 1920X1700, and i must say i absolutly love it, i got this config mostly because at the time i had no idea what i was getting and it said supports full 1080p so i thought that ones gotta be awesome!!!!

I hate small fonts seeing as how i am darned near blind but maybe i have just gotten used to it, but i dont think so, because some web pages show up with really small font in internet explorer 7 so i have to go and enlarge them, it does not happen to often but it does happen when i use IE7 however i do use mozilla most of the time and does not seem to have an issue with this!

also if you where unaware of this as well, the inspiron 1720 can hold 2 hard drives, if i were to do it all over again i would have ordered it with two and replaced them, but i didnt, so i had to get a hard drive caddy and an interposer for my second drive.

i have read posts on the caddy order part numbers and mine was a different part number from the dell website however it worked and i am up and running, also the interposer is the same part number.

and the 1720 does not have hardware RAID.

    these were my part numbers:

    Caddy:FP444
    Interposer: XK231

i got them today and they worked for me!
    hope this helps you!
