Imma be getting a E1505, and I hear Vista runs best with the 2GB ram. right now its $185 more to upgrade, and I was told I don't really need it right now, just start off with 1GB and upgrade later if I need to. Does anyone know where it's the cheapest, and usually about how much is it to upgrade? Thanks, also I'm in the Chicago area.

There are many brands...but the prices are highly competitive. When my time comes to upgrade to 2GB...Newegg is where I'll buy from. Remember...to maintain dual channel speed...you will want to purchase matching 1 GB sticks. To purchase TWO new sticks...at least $200, so the price to upgrade from Dell isn't all that bad. Maybe you should consider letting Dell do it and never have to worry about it again. When I upgrade...I am going to have to replace both my sticks with two new ones. Waste of the memory I already have -
Always purchase ram after you buy the system and install it yourself it will come out alot cheaper -

Thats 185 bucks for a 1 gig upgrade, vs 200 bucks for a 2 gig upgrade, thats steep, plus with the self upgrade you can put the old ram in another computer if you have one, or sell it, and cut costs further, ram upgrades are as easy as changing a battery in a remote in the e1505, both slots are easily accessed unlike some smaller machines where some disassmebly is required, even them its pretty easy, I say get the cheapest configuration, whether thats 1x512, 2x512, or 1x1gb, I really wish they had a none option, also you can go in steps say you get 2x512, with the intel 945 chipset you CAN remove one 512, add one 1gb, and get 1.5 gb in dual channel, you dont need matched pairs with this chipset, just remember that if you use one 533 stick, and one 667 stick, they will both run at 533 ,then you can upgrade to 2gb when you have the need/cash.
Speed isnt all that important either, 667 has a higher latency than 533, so the real world performance gap is negligible. -
It all depends on your confidence level and if you are the wheel and deal type.
You could get just 1GB now, sell the 1GB or use it in another system later, and purchase 2GB then. One would hope you would come out aheadUltimately you would need to do the math and try to determine your ROI.
Or, if working with electronics is not your thing, you could just order the 2GB now and call it good. -

No I commend you on it, just i know not everyone is clear on what ROI is, thats all.
