Hi,
I have an Inspiron 2650, whose cpu I would like to replace with one from an Inspiron 1150. The 1150's cpu says. says 2.8GHZ/512K/533. Does anyone know if the 2650 will take this processor?
Thanks,
..... john
P.S. The 1150 works alright, except that the screen instensity varies, and goes off after a couple of minutes.

Well, I guess I have to try this to find out if it works.

This article covers some of it: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/51561-35-upgrade-dell-inspiron-2650
The system itself has a Intel 845MZ chipset which is a socket 478. It might physically fit, but with a 533 bus, it probably won't work.
The fastest proc that went into the 2650 was a 2.2Ghz P4M: Mobile IntelĀ® PentiumĀ® 4 Processor - M 2.20 GHz, 512K Cache, 400 MHz FSB with SPEC Code(s) SL6J5, SL6LR, SL6LS, SL6VB -
Thanks guys,
I have managed to get the Inspiron 1150 to boot, so I'm now looking at it as a viable unit.
Thanks for your help....... john
P.S. I have not yet tried to install the 1150 cpu in the 2650.
