    Hi,

I have an old Inspiron 9100 that no longer works so I ordered an Inspiron 1520 to replace it which is due in the next few days.

Of all the reviews I've read the screens in the 1520 are rubbish, which lead me wonder if I could possibly replace the 1520's with the very nice display that was in my 9100?

The 1520 resolution is 1440x900, the 9100's was, if I remember, 1920x1000(ish)...my question is, can you simply change the panels from different laptops? The are both 15.4 inch...I wonder how a laptop determines it's display resolution. Both laptops use dedicated display adapters so I assume there's no additional driver circuity in the way? Or would the connectors etc be different?

Has anyone had any success doing this? I was just so impressed with the display in my old laptop that downgrading to a lesser screen would only annoy me, I fear I might also have made a mistake getting a glossy screen in the new one!

    Any advice welcome,
    Cheers,
    Alan

Most likely, no. Plus the resolution of the 9100 is 1280x800 or 1680x1050.

it would all be up to the mounts of the lcd pannel to the plastic frames. also, the connection cable may be of different lengths and may not reach. You do know that you could have ordered the higher resolution screen on your 1520 right?
