Yes, this is probably fraud but we'll see.

As some of you know, I have had no end of problems with the Vostro 1400. I'm on my 4th (mainly CPU whine & bluetooth problems).

On this replacement (everything seems ok with this one) I wasn't able to get the 4965AGN wifi card (apparently Dell doesn't put them in Vostro's anymore).

I'm considering popping the 4965AGN out of my old one, and swapping it with the 3945ABG that's in the new one. Do Dell even look at this kind of thing when they get a return?

I have swapped them & confirmed that it works.

Since it's a replacement, maybe Dell would be OK with it if you asked them.
Especially since it's your 4th attempt at getting a good Vostro.
Don't do it without asking though.

    I'll ask Dell.

I've got a tech coming tomorrow, I'll see if they will be happy with him doing it.

    No Wireless-N in my region.

I understand your post to mean you originally ordered and paid for the 4965 and you are receiving a system that is supposed to be identical to the one you ordered but they had no more 4965s available and substituted it, instead, with a 3945.

If that's the case, I would call the replacement team and inform them that since you paid for the 4965 originally, you would like to swap the cards. It seems perfectly fair to me to do so, and I imagine they will OK it and note your order. Definitely ask first, though.

Truth is, if your replacement order says 3945 on it, when you send it back with a 3945, you are actually matching up the item to the order, so I don't see the fraud at all, but, again, I'd call them first to make sure.
