I have an Inspiron 5000 with XP installed.

Using the XP mouse driver, I can use the touchpad and a PS2 mouse simultaneously.

I installed the latest Synaptic drivers from their site, but then ONLY the touchpad works, I could find no way to enable an external mouse.

So sadly I uninstalled the Synaptic drivers and its cool features.

Did I miss something, or is it possible to use a mouse while having the Synaptic drivers for the touchpad?

Uninstall your current one, and install the one for the E1705. Should work just fine.
