    Hi guys

After having spent ages to get my system fixed, Dell finally issued me a system replacement in which the new system arrived last week. The old system is due to be collected tomorrow. When I asked the person who issued the system replacement if I could keep the miscellaneous things that came with the system, he said yes. I'm just wondering, does this include the remote/earphones/battery? Obviously I'd like to keep all three but I don't which ones to keep/send off.

Also, do I need to wipe out my hard drive clean or is it safe to just send it off without it having erased? I don't have many important files there since I've only used it for 2 months before it malfunctioned.

    Any help would by appreciated.

Personally, i would wipe it before giving it to them. They will probably let you keep the earphones and remote, i wouldnt think the battery too, but you never know.

Keep what they don't send you a replacement for, then you're fine. Dell knows this.

I'd still at least restore the drive to factory image. Some of those files are things like your browsing history and such...you'd be surprised what you could do with just a bit of data (pun intended). Sure, it isn't a perfect way of wiping your data...but it makes it that much more difficult to recover/steal anything.

don`t think that it will include remote/earphones,but i do think that it will have a battery, also it would be safer for you to format the hard drive... in any case...

So you guys think I should just give the battery back? I don't really want to, but if I must. :D

AS for the hard drive, I think I'm gonna wipe it clean. Does anyone have any good software recommendations on cleaning up your hard drive?

How come you're sending back your unit? If they said keep the accessories then keep them. Just send back what they sent you. If no battery then keep the battery.

On the Best free software thread there should be a program called KBan that completely wipes hard drives and can be run from a flash drive and possibly a CD.
BUT BE CAREFUL AND CONFIGURE IT RIGHT!
By default it wipes all drive partitions it finds, but there are configuration settings for it to just wipe a certain drive.

Thanks for the replies guys. So I'm definitely keeping the earphones and the rest of the accessories. They did send me a new battery with the laptop so I guess I'm not allowed to keep the old battery.
