Anyone know of a decent oc utility for my processor? all i found so far are clockgen and ntune which are both useless. id like to increase my performance from 2.0 GHz to 2.4 GHz.
thanks in advance

Here's your solution.
Oh by the way, is there some reason why you need to increase your performance to 2.4GHz? Is 2.0 GHz not enough? -
Delete this post, served no purpose.

You cannot OC CPUs on dell laptops, unless it's limited - XPS models T7600G, or factory OC'ed M1730's.
-
You need to relax. I gave you that link because you wanted 2.4GHz performance. Well as of right now, that is the ONLY WAY to get 2.4GHz performance in your laptop. You cannot overlclock it.
-
all you had to do was say that it is impossible to OC a processor in a dell laptop and that would have been enough. it seemed to me that you tried to act like a smart ass. If you didnt then im sorry, i must have misread the tone of your post. Please disregard my last post.
now onto the topic. So there is no way? well thats some major drag, how come its impossible? has no one written software to get around that ? -
The software is there, it's just not compatible with the current intel chipsets/cpu. The way clockgen works is thru specific plls that tell the software what cpu its dealing with. So far, there are none for core 2 duos.
So yes, technically someone has to write the code and make it compatible, but until then there's nothing to do. -
ahh now i get it. what can i say. i bet we probably wont see it coming out soon eh?

Your CPU is good enough for gaming anyways (if that's what you are seeking in performance atleast.)
It's GPU that does most of the work in games. Hell, I had 2.16ghz on my M90, downgraded to 1.6, and don't notice any difference when it comes down to gaming.
FYI, 3dmark05 was 9800 ish with 2.16, and 8800 with 1.6ghz cpu. -
Yeah that's why I asked about why you need it, because you have a very powerful cpu that's quite overkill for most tasks.
If you really needed every single MHz for whatever you do, then you might wanna think about investing money in a better cpu. But if you're not an extreme power use, your current cpu will be more than enough. -
im not an extreme power user. i just wanted to cheat my way around to get a better score on 3dmark06 for bragging rights
. anyway i guess that wont be happening but im content with my cpu's power. I guess its for the better that i cant tamper with it.
-
If you want more 3Dmark points, then you should be OCing your gpu, not your cpu so much. You will see a bigger improvement by upping the clocks on your 8600GT.
Try rivatuner for that. -
yes the only problem is that i alrdy oc'ed the gpu to its max, and i know it wont go higher. I guess i wont get to cheat around and get higher marks ty to cpu
. thanks for the help anyway. I hope someone writes software for this kind of thing but i also know how unlikely that is to happen... then again you have poeple working on even more crazy projects like the Alky project.
