Hi all,
Just a quick question before ordering mine. What would you do? T8100 with 3GB ram or T8300 with 4GB ram? T8300 with 4GB ram is not really an option - only if the difference is really noticable in games like FPS.
I will use the notebook for office stuff and gaming (FPS), Assassins Creed, CoD4 etc
Thanks!![]()

rams are cheap to buy

get the processor. Besides, you need a 64 bit OS for that 4gig RAM.
-
Do you really *need* the faster processor? What will you be using the laptop for?
In normal use you will not a difference since both processor will downclock when not used anyway. You will notice a very small difference when doing processor heavy tasks e.g. video encoding. Even then between the processors the difference will be in single figure seconds.
For gaming the CPU is never the bottle neck, the GPU always is.
I would go with the 8100+4GB since it saves you the hassle of upgrading later. -
I will be using my laptop for normal use (college), gaming(CoD4, GRID, GTR2, Oblivion, Assassins Creed) and playing HD material (1080p .mkv/.mp4 files).
Especially HD material should benefit from the faster processor, right? -
Get the processor, they are costly to upgrade but RAM is getting cheaper everyday (thanks to Vista?).
-
Processor ftw!
-
processor, since RAM is so much easier to install and won't void your warranty if you change it.
-
Yeah get the LOWEST amount of RAM you can, get the best processor you can with the money you saved, then later on buy an upgrade in RAM.
Besides 4gb versus 3gb you won't see THAT much of a difference unless you use the 64-bit version of Vista, and like Richierich above me stated installing RAM doesn't void your warranty whereas installing a processor upgrade does. -
I don't think this decision is very hard at all, you can pick up memory dirt cheap if you wanna upgrade.
What hassle comes with plugging in a stick of memory? -
How about lesser heat and more battery life....I prefer T8100...

I always consider the processor first
-
Yeah, aside from price which RAM beats the stuffing out of the Processor, ease of upgrading also lies with the RAM, not the processor.

Thanks all. I'll call Dell on monday and ask if I can get 1GB or 2GB ram instead. I'll upgrade the memory myself.
What about ordering a M1530 with 1x2GB and placing your own 2GB stick in? I've read that the memory sticks have to match to work together. Is this still the case?
T8300 with 3GB ram or T8100 with 4GB ram?
